Free Decodable Books for UFLI Foundations Lessons

This page gathers every free book we’ve written for UFLI Foundations lessons, sorted by lesson, so you can go straight to the sound or spelling pattern your child is practising. Each one is a full decodable story that is free to read online. Most free titles also include read-along audio and a PDF you can print for reading away from a screen.

First graders are often reading words with digraphs, silent e and common word endings, which are the early sections on this page. Start with the lesson your child’s class is on and read two or three free books from it, then move to the next lesson once the words feel easy. Rereading a familiar story builds speed and confidence before a new one.

Look for decodable books, which use only the letter sounds a child has already been taught, so every word can be sounded out. The National Reading Panel (2000) found that systematic phonics instruction helps children learn to read, and decodable stories give that practice a purpose. The books on this page follow one lesson order, which makes them easy to match to what your child is learning.
