Something in the Hill! UFLI Foundations Lesson 71
Practice Words
Alex has a shovel and a big grin. She has a plan. 'This patch of land is the spot,' says Alex. 'I can dig a big pit in this hill!'
Alex digs into the hill. She cuts a long tunnel in the land. Bits of stone wink at the edge of the wall. 'Odd,' says Alex. 'What is in there?'
Alex stops. A fish sits in the tunnel! What an odd catch. 'I can not miss this,' says Alex. She fetches the fish with a grin.
Alex sets the fish by the hot flames. 'Do not budge, fish,' says Alex. 'This is my lunch.' Then she goes back to dig.
The pit gets big and dim. Alex grips the shovel and edges past a ledge. 'Do not slip, Alex,' she says. 'Do not slip.'
Cat sniffs. Cat spots the fish by the flames. Quick as a flash, Cat nudges the fish from the hot spot.
Munch, munch, munch! Cat snatches up the last scrap of fish. Not a bit is left on the grass. Not one scrap.
Cat trudges off, full and glad. Cat treks up the ridge in the sun. In the pit, Alex still digs and digs.
The pit is so big! The walls stretch up and up on all sides. Alex looks at the top of the pit. 'Just one last dig,' she says.
Alex stops. A red flash winks from a notch in the rock. That is redstone! 'Oh no,' gasps Alex.
Run, Alex, run! She jumps up the steps, quick, quick, quick. She clutches the blocks and does not stop. Thump, thump, thump!
Bam! A big blast smashes up the pit. Fish, fish, fish! They drop in batches on the rocks. What a catch!
