On the left side of the image, Player walks along a dirt path approaching an empty Minecraft-style village at nighttime under a full moon and starry sky. He has a large square head with brown hair peeking out from under a dark teal-green backwards cap, large round dark brown eyes, a beige/tan short-sleeved shirt with faint orange-brown horizontal stripes, grey suspender-style straps over the shoulders attached to a grey backpack, dark brown pants, and dark grey chunky boots. He faces the viewer at a three-quarter angle, looking cautious and uncertain. Ahead of him, wooden and stone houses with closed doors line a quiet street, lit only by glowing jack-o'-lanterns beside the doors and small green lantern lights along the path, casting an eerie atmosphere. The houses appear deserted with no one in sight. The right side of the image is plain teal background.

I am the best explorer in the world. I have walked into dark caves. I have crossed rivers at night. Nothing makes me afraid. So when I spot a village under a full moon, I march right up to it. Glowing pumpkins sit beside every door. But every hut is dark inside. 'Hello?' I call. No one calls back.

On the right side of the image, Player stands in the foreground at a three-quarter angle, looking up with a wary expression at a large iron golem that looms in the middle of a Minecraft-style village street at nighttime. Player has a large square head with brown hair peeking out from under a dark teal-green backwards cap, large round dark brown eyes, a beige/tan short-sleeved shirt with faint orange-brown horizontal stripes, grey suspender-style straps over the shoulders attached to a grey backpack, dark brown pants, and dark grey chunky boots. The iron golem is tall and blocky, standing still and silent, appearing old and weathered with cracks across its body and green vines creeping up its sides. Behind them, houses with warm glowing lights are visible under a dark starry sky. The left side is plain background reserved for text.

Every village has a golem. A big blocky golem that keeps the village safe. I find this one standing still in the middle of the road. It is cracked from its top to its feet. Vines creep up its legs like the forest is swallowing it. Its eyes are dark. 'Not afraid,' I whisper. But it is not a true whisper. I say it like I need to hear it.

On the left side of the image, Ghost Cat walks between two wooden Minecraft-style houses at night, moving toward the viewer with a slightly translucent, ethereal appearance. Ghost Cat has a compact cube-shaped body and short rectangular legs in light icy blue and white tones with a subtle chequerboard/pixel texture, large angular dark teal eyes with a sharp grumpy expression, a small pink nose, a pronounced frown, small pointed ears atop a flat square head, and a curved S-shaped tail. The walls of the houses behind Ghost Cat are faintly visible through its see-through body. The scene is dark and shadowy, with the narrow gap between house walls framing Ghost Cat and a cloudy night sky visible above. Player stands in the near foreground at a three-quarter angle, facing Ghost Cat with a startled, uneasy expression, one hand raised defensively. He wears his dark teal-green backwards cap, beige/tan striped shirt, grey suspender straps and backpack, dark brown pants, and dark grey chunky boots. The right side of the image is plain background suitable for text overlay.

Something moves between the huts. A cat! Just a normal cat walking right at me. But I can see the walls of the huts behind it. I see them right past its body! It is not solid at all. A cool feeling creeps along my back. 'Right,' I say. 'A ghost cat. That is fine. I am still the best explorer in the world.'

Page 4
On the right side of the image, Player walks cautiously along a grassy path through a Minecraft-style village at nighttime under a dark, starry sky, peering into the empty huts. He faces the viewer at a three-quarter angle with a puzzled, disappointed expression. He wears his dark teal-green backwards cap, beige/tan striped shirt, grey suspender straps and backpack, dark brown pants, and dark grey chunky boots. Raised wooden houses with stone foundations sit along the path on either side, lit by glowing torches that cast warm orange light. The doors of the huts are open but no one is inside — the street is completely deserted. The left side of the image is plain background for text placement.

I look in every hut in the village. I check under tables and behind doors. I peek into chests and snoop in every nook. Not one villager is left. Torches still burn on the walls. Plants still bloom in the window boxes. It is like they all just got up and left. Where did they all go?

Page 5
On the left side of the image, Player stands in a dark, rainy nighttime Minecraft-style scene, looking up in fear at a massive serpent creature that towers over him. Player faces the viewer at a three-quarter angle with a frightened expression, his dark teal-green backwards cap, beige/tan striped shirt, grey suspender straps and backpack, dark brown pants, and dark grey chunky boots visible despite the dark atmosphere. The large brown serpent-like creature with glowing green eyes looms above, its long blocky neck rising up from the ground beside a wooden house, dwarfing Player below. Rain streaks fall heavily across the dark blue-grey sky, and a single torch glows faintly on a structure nearby, providing a small point of warm light against the cold, stormy atmosphere. The right side of the image is plain light cyan background.

A storm rolls in fast, and rain beats hard on every hut and tree. The sky fills with gloom. Then I see it. A huge serpent rises up beside a hut. Its green eyes glow, and it is as tall as the trees. I have never seen a beast so big, and I never want to. 'Still brave,' I tell myself. But my legs are backing up on their own.

Page 6
On the right side of the image, Player stands in the foreground at a three-quarter angle, drawing back a bow with an arrow nocked and aimed forward at Zombie Villager. Player has a determined, focused expression, with his dark teal-green backwards cap, beige/tan striped shirt, grey suspender straps and backpack, dark brown pants, and dark grey chunky boots. Torchlight casts dramatic shadows across the scene. Further up the dirt path, Zombie Villager ambles toward Player with menacing glowing red-orange eyes. Zombie Villager has bright green skin, a squared-off head, angular red-orange eyes with heavy brows, a frowning mouth showing white teeth, stocky short proportions with chunky square hands, and wears a tattered dark brown hooded robe with a tan/khaki belt, dark grey-green pants, and brown boots with green pixelated details at the ankles. The scene is set outdoors in a dark, rainy nighttime village lit by glowing torches on wooden posts, with log buildings on either side of the path. The left side of the image is plain light blue background reserved for text.

I slip past the serpent and run right into something grim. A Zombie Villager stands in the middle of the path. Its red eyes glow in the rain as it staggers at me. But I am still the best explorer in the world. I pull an arrow from my pack, set it in my bow, and take aim. 'Sorry, pal. But this is the end.'

Page 7
On the left side of the image, a dark, rainy nighttime Minecraft village scene. In the foreground, the defeated Zombie Villager lies on the ground — bright green skin, tattered dark brown hooded robe, now motionless. Rising up from the fallen body is a Ghost Villager, a translucent blocky figure in muted teal/seafoam green with a ghostly wispy tail instead of legs, thick angular dark eyebrows slanted inward in an angry expression, small dark eyes, and a flat frowning mouth. The ghost hovers in the doorway of a wooden and cobblestone hut, its green-tinted eyes still glowing through the rain. Player stands nearby at a three-quarter angle, holding his bow at his side, staring in shock at the risen ghost. He wears his dark teal-green backwards cap, beige/tan striped shirt, grey suspender straps and backpack, dark brown pants, and dark grey chunky boots. Rain streaks fall heavily across the dark sky, with shadowy trees in the background. The right side of the image is plain teal background.

One clean shot. Zombie Villager falls. I pump my fist. 'Yay! The best explorer in the world strikes again!' Then Ghost Villager floats up from the body and into the doorway. It looks at me with eyes full of rage, glowing green in the rain. 'Not again!' I yell. 'It will not stay put!'

Page 8
On the right side of the image, a group of Ghost Villagers stand gathered among white daisies with yellow centres. They are translucent, blocky figures in muted teal/seafoam green with ghostly wispy tails instead of legs, thick angular dark eyebrows slanted inward, small dark eyes, flat frowning mouths, and small wing-like protrusions on their backs. Small teal sparkle accents float around them. They stare toward the viewer with stern, unblinking expressions. The sky behind them is a vivid pink and orange sunset with stars beginning to appear above. A glowing lantern shines faintly among dark trees in the background. On the far left, Player backs away from the group at a three-quarter angle, looking alarmed and ready to flee. He wears his dark teal-green backwards cap, beige/tan striped shirt, grey suspender straps and backpack, dark brown pants, and dark grey chunky boots, with his bow slung across his back. Nearby, Ghost Cat sits at Player's feet, translucent and icy blue-white with angular dark teal eyes, a grumpy expression, and its S-shaped tail curled upward. The left side of the image is plain teal background for text placement.

I spin and face them. Ghost Villagers. A troop of them, in the white daisy bed, all looking at me. The rain stops. I can see where the villagers went. They never left. They just stopped being alive. Ghost Cat sits at my feet and looks up at me like I am a big fool. 'I am the best explorer in the world,' I say. 'And the best explorer in the world... runs!'
