Anansi Wants a Dish UFLI Foundations Lesson 66
Practice Words
This is Mmoatia. She is a small fairy, and she is glad to help. She has a magic spoon. It can fill a tub with a hot dish.
Anansi sits in his web. He looks at the kids as they munch a snack. A parrot tells him of the magic spoon. 'A spoon that can fill a pot? I must get it!' says Anansi.
Anansi hides by a plant. Mmoatia sings as she mixes a hot mix in the pot. She fills dish upon dish for the pals, and Anansi just looks and looks.
Mmoatia sits to munch from a small dish. She sets the spoon by the dish as she rests. Anansi looks on from his spot. He has a plan.
Anansi is quick! He grabs the spoon and runs off with it. Mmoatia does not run. She does not yell. She just sits still and looks at him.
Anansi runs home to his big plastic tub. He dips the spoon in and mixes fast, but the tub will not fill. 'Fill up! Fill up!' he yells. The spoon just goes dim.
Anansi goes back to Mmoatia. He is upset, and he wants a dish. He drops the spoon. 'It will not fill the pot,' he says. 'Yes,' says Mmoatia. 'It will not help a shut fist.'
Mmoatia hands the spoon back to Anansi. 'Fill a dish for a pal, and it will help,' she tells him. Anansi holds it and thinks. 'I will test it,' he says.
Anansi dips the spoon in his tub and mixes. He thinks of the kids and their snacks. He does not grab, and he does not demand. The spoon shines, and a hot mix fills the tub to the brim.
Anansi fills the best dish. His gut hums, but he sets that dish by Mmoatia. Then he fills his dish, and Mmoatia smiles at him.
Anansi is fed, and he is glad. He packs up the rest of the hot mix in a big pack. He sets the pack on the path by the homes, so the kids will get it. Then he walks home and hums.
Anansi visits Mmoatia lots. They sit at the big plant base and dine, while bugs blink in the dim. Anansi still thinks of tricks, but he sets a dish for Mmoatia first of all. If Anansi helps, the pot fills up to the brim.
