Create a new children's book page illustration using the provided character reference images only. Characters must match their references exactly. CHARACTER APPEARANCE: Anansi — match his reference; seated alone at his table with spoon raised, one leg frozen as an unexpected knock comes from the closed door, expression shifting from delight to wariness. SCENE: A cosy contemporary Ghanaian compound kitchen; painted cement walls, metal pots, enamel bowls, patterned tablecloth, plastic water bucket by the closed doorway, golden yams, and a set table. Anansi (match attached reference) smiles beside the meal he has cooked for himself. Show the closed door from inside the kitchen with only small knock marks or vibration lines as Turtle (match attached reference) remains unseen outside; do NOT show the knocker. No child, no boy, no human, no guest visible at the door. Keep the scene simple and readable. COMPOSITION / TEXT SPACE: LEFT 50% TEXT SPACE — place characters and action on the RIGHT half, leaving the left 50% text area plain and uncluttered for text overlay.
DESIGN DIRECTION: Contemporary Akan trickster world. Keep Anansi and other animal characters simple and mostly unclothed, preserving Anansi's kente waist sash; use modern Ghanaian village/market/courtyard details such as painted cement houses, metal cooking pots, enamel bowls, plastic water buckets, patterned tablecloths, sandals, bicycles, and present-day human background figures in bright everyday clothing where they naturally belong. Keep magical or Sky God moments wondrous rather than realistic urban scenes.
SCENE-SPECIFIC DETAILS: Anansi pauses alone in greedy anticipation as the unseen knock interrupts his private feast, with golden fried yams, steaming metal pots, enamel bowls, a closed blue door, and the patterned tablecloth grounding the cosy compound kitchen.

Anansi cooks all morning. By midday, the smell from his house makes all the animals hungry. There is thick nut stew, golden fried yams, and a pot of nut soup that bubbles and bubbles. Anansi sets his table and grins. He is a fine cook, and today he will eat all of it, with no visitor to feed. Then, knock, knock! A slow knock at his door.

CHARACTER APPEARANCE: Turtle — match his reference; dusty shell, seated hopefully, one webbed claw touching an enamel bowl, hungry but polite. Anansi — match his reference; grand false hospitality, widest least-sincere grin. SCENE: A contemporary Ghanaian compound kitchen with steaming metal pots, patterned tablecloth, enamel bowl, plastic water bucket, and open painted doorway. Turtle (match attached reference) is dusty from the long road, hungry and relieved, reaching for the bowl. Anansi (match attached reference) welcomes him with false warmth, then raises one leg to insist that they wash their hands at the river. Keep Turtle's genuine hunger and Anansi's false warmth clear. COMPOSITION / TEXT SPACE: RIGHT 50% TEXT SPACE — place characters and action on the LEFT half, leaving the right 50% text area plain and uncluttered for text overlay.
DESIGN DIRECTION: Contemporary Akan trickster world. Keep Anansi and other animal characters simple and mostly unclothed, preserving Anansi's kente waist sash; use modern Ghanaian village/market/courtyard details such as painted cement houses, metal cooking pots, enamel bowls, plastic water buckets, patterned tablecloths, sandals, bicycles, and present-day human background figures in bright everyday clothing where they naturally belong. Keep magical or Sky God moments wondrous rather than realistic urban scenes.
SCENE-SPECIFIC DETAILS: Turtle reaches hopefully for the bowl while Anansi performs false generosity, framed by steaming pots, the open doorway, a plastic water bucket, and the bright patterned tablecloth between them.

It is Turtle, a dusty visitor from a long road. 'Anansi,' says Turtle, 'I have walked from sunrise to midday. That soup smells like a dream.' Anansi looks at the steaming pots. He looks at Turtle. He looks at the pots again. 'Yes, yes,' he says, with a wide, fake smile. 'Sit down and eat.' Turtle reaches for the bowl. Anansi lifts one leg. 'But first, we wash hands at the river. It is the custom in this house.'

CHARACTER APPEARANCE: Anansi — match his reference; foreground, eating yams quickly with a satisfied expression. Turtle — match his reference; small in the background, trudging slowly toward the distant river, shell dusty. SCENE: A contemporary Ghanaian compound kitchen opening onto a red-dirt path with a painted wall and water bucket. Anansi (match attached reference) is already halfway through the yams, warmly but theatrically sending Turtle (match attached reference) back toward the distant river after Turtle's hands became dusty again. Keep Anansi's speed and Turtle's slow journey clear. COMPOSITION / TEXT SPACE: TOP 50% TEXT SPACE — keep all characters and action in the bottom half, leaving the top 50% text area plain and uncluttered for text overlay.
DESIGN DIRECTION: Contemporary Akan trickster world. Keep Anansi and other animal characters simple and mostly unclothed, preserving Anansi's kente waist sash; use modern Ghanaian village/market/courtyard details such as painted cement houses, metal cooking pots, enamel bowls, plastic water buckets, patterned tablecloths, sandals, bicycles, and present-day human background figures in bright everyday clothing where they naturally belong. Keep magical or Sky God moments wondrous rather than realistic urban scenes.
SCENE-SPECIFIC DETAILS: Anansi devours the yams while Turtle trudges back toward the distant river again, with the red-dirt path, painted compound wall, water bucket, and dusty grey shell showing the trick’s unfairness.

The river is not near, and Turtle is no runner. When he comes back with clean hands, Anansi is midway through the yams. 'Sit, sit!' says Anansi. 'There is plenty.' Turtle reaches for the stew. 'Oh, but look,' says Anansi, and he shakes his head slowly. 'Your hands are dusty again. You touched the ground on the way back. Go wash!' Turtle looks down. His hands are dusty. The river is not near. Turtle goes again.

CHARACTER APPEARANCE: Turtle — match his reference; standing at the bare table, nodding slowly, calm and thoughtful. Anansi — match his reference; sprawled behind him, full and sleepy, not sorry. SCENE: A contemporary Ghanaian compound kitchen after the food is gone; clean metal pots, empty enamel bowls, patterned tablecloth, painted wall. Anansi (match attached reference) wipes his mouth with a piece of kente cloth and leans back, very full and comfortable. Turtle (match attached reference) stands at the empty table with spotless hands and aching legs, nodding slowly before walking back down the road. Keep Turtle's quiet plan clear. COMPOSITION / TEXT SPACE: LEFT 50% TEXT SPACE — place characters and action on the RIGHT half, leaving the left 50% text area plain and uncluttered for text overlay.
DESIGN DIRECTION: Contemporary Akan trickster world. Keep magical or Sky God moments wondrous rather than realistic urban scenes.
SCENE-SPECIFIC DETAILS: Turtle stands silently at the stripped table, nodding as his plan forms, while clean metal pots, empty enamel bowls, Anansi’s sleepy full belly, and the rumpled kente cloth reveal the insult.

When Turtle returns, hands spotless and legs aching, the pots are empty. Anansi wipes his mouth with a cloth and leans back, feeling like a winner. 'I am sad, my friend,' he says. He does not look sad at all. 'My belly is full, and the food is all finished. Come back another time.' Turtle looks at the clean, empty pots. He says nothing. He just nods slowly, the way you nod when you have a plan. 'A guest remembers how he is fed,' says Turtle, and he walks back down the road.

Create a new children's book page illustration using the provided character reference images only. Characters must match their references exactly. CHARACTER APPEARANCE: Anansi — match his reference; standing on the riverbank reading a folded leaf invitation, eager and pleased. SCENE: A contemporary Ghanaian village riverbank in early morning mist; red-dirt path, bicycle leaning near a painted wall, plastic water bucket nearby, and a wide green river. Anansi (match attached reference) waits eagerly on the bank after receiving an invitation from Turtle (match attached reference), whose home is faintly hinted at below the water. COMPOSITION / TEXT SPACE: RIGHT 50% TEXT SPACE — place characters and action on the LEFT half, leaving the right 50% text area plain and uncluttered for text overlay.
DESIGN DIRECTION: Contemporary Akan trickster world. Keep Anansi and other animal characters simple and mostly unclothed, preserving Anansi's kente waist sash; use modern Ghanaian village/market/courtyard details such as painted cement houses, metal cooking pots, enamel bowls, plastic water buckets, patterned tablecloths, sandals, bicycles, and present-day human background figures in bright everyday clothing where they naturally belong. Keep magical or Sky God moments wondrous rather than realistic urban scenes.
SCENE-SPECIFIC DETAILS: Anansi reads Turtle’s leaf invitation with hungry excitement at the misty riverbank, beside a red-dirt path, a leaning bicycle, a painted wall, and the deep green water hiding Turtle’s home.

After three days, Anansi finds a neatly folded leaf at his door. It is a note from Turtle, in berry ink: Come to my home down on the riverbed. I am cooking a feast for you. That night, Anansi dreams of spiced clams, smoked fish, and sweet honey bites. What a dreamer! He is at the riverbank before the mist lifts.

Create a new children's book page illustration using the provided character reference images only. Characters must match their references exactly — same body shape, proportions, eye style, colours, clothing and accessories — do not redesign them or invent new features. CHARACTER APPEARANCE: Anansi — match his reference; here he floats at the water's surface, all eight legs churning uselessly, expression of pure frustration. Turtle — match his reference; here he sinks gracefully below, waving pleasantly up toward Anansi, beside a glittering feast table on the riverbed. SCENE: A split river view; above the waterline Anansi (match attached reference) bobs like a cork, legs spinning as every attempt to dive sends him back to the surface; below, Turtle (match attached reference) descends smoothly and waves him toward a glittering underwater feast table. The food is warmly lit, beautiful, and just out of reach. Illustrate only the action, emotion and setting of this page; do not add plot or details from other pages. Keep the scene clear and readable for a young child, showing only what this page needs. COMPOSITION / TEXT SPACE: Keep the TOP 50% text area genuinely open inside a smooth, low-detail gradient blur covering the TOP 60% of the image. Use only a plain, continuous continuation of the scene background there, with NO characters, objects, props, hanging items, plants, patterns or decorations. Keep all important characters and detailed scene content in the LOWER 40%, with only a soft natural fade into the blurred top text area. That TOP 50% text area must be the SAME continuous background colour as the scene (not a flat panel, not a different shade, no dividing line). IMPORTANT: Do not include any written text, letters, numbers, captions, speech bubbles, signs, labels, logos, or book text anywhere in the image. The image must be purely illustrative. OUTPUT: a single full-page children's book illustration with approximately 50% clean negative space for text overlay.
DESIGN DIRECTION: Contemporary Akan trickster world. Keep Anansi and other animal characters simple and mostly unclothed, preserving Anansi's kente waist sash; use modern Ghanaian village/market/courtyard details such as painted cement houses, metal cooking pots, enamel bowls, plastic water buckets, patterned tablecloths, sandals, bicycles, and present-day human background figures in bright everyday clothing where they naturally belong. Keep magical or Sky God moments wondrous rather than realistic urban scenes.
SCENE-SPECIFIC DETAILS: Anansi thrashes uselessly on the river surface while Turtle glides down to the feast, shown through a split waterline, glittering underwater dishes, warm riverbed light, and Anansi’s bobbing dry body.

The problem comes when Anansi jumps in. He floats. Not a bit, a lot! He bobs on top like a cork, while Turtle, a smooth diver, sinks down and waves him down. Below, Turtle's table is set with dishes. Anansi spins his legs, kicks, and churns the water, but he pops back to the top each time. He is a kicker and a spinner, but he is no diver.

Create a new children's book page illustration using the provided character reference images only. Characters must match their references exactly. CHARACTER APPEARANCE: Anansi — match his reference; on the bank eyeing stones with calculating interest, one leg reaching for a large flat grey stone. Turtle — match his reference; sinking calmly below the water behind Anansi. SCENE: A contemporary Ghanaian village riverbank with muddy stones, red-dirt path, bicycle, plastic water bucket, and glittering river surface. Turtle (match attached reference) sinks politely beneath the water after declining to tie on a stone. Anansi (match attached reference) looks toward the plentiful stones half-buried in the mud as a plan forms. Keep Anansi's plan clear and simple.
SCENE-SPECIFIC DETAILS: Anansi calculates how to sink as Turtle politely disappears below, eyeing flat grey stones in the muddy bank near the bicycle, plastic water bucket, and quiet red-dirt path.

Turtle comes up. 'What is the matter, Anansi?' he asks, in a very polite voice. 'The current is strong,' says Anansi, which is not true. 'Maybe you could tie a stone to my leg?' Turtle tilts his head. 'Oh, I would not want you to be hurt. Come down when you are ready.' Then Turtle sinks again. Anansi looks at the riverbank. There are plenty of stones there, round, flat, heavy ones, deep in the mud. Anansi is a sly joker. He has a plan.

Characters must match their references exactly — same body shape, proportions, eye style, colours, clothing and accessories — do not redesign them or invent new features. CHARACTER APPEARANCE: Anansi — match his reference; here he stands on the riverbed beaming with triumph, wearing the thick woven reed jacket with pockets visibly bulging with stones. Turtle — match his reference; here he stands at the stone table smiling pleasantly and ladling food from beautiful dishes. SCENE: The underwater riverbed; Reed jacket (match attached reference; worn with three stones bulging from each pocket) holds Six river stones (match attached reference; packed three into each jacket pocket), allowing Anansi (match attached reference; wearing the stiff reed jacket with both pockets bulging with stones) to stand at the bottom opposite Turtle (match attached reference), who smiles and serves the feast at a stone table set with spiced river-clams, smoked crayfish, and honeyed water-lily seeds. Warm light shines against cool blue-green water. Illustrate only the action, emotion and setting of this page; do not add plot or details from other pages. Keep the scene clear and readable for a young child, showing only what this page needs. COMPOSITION / TEXT SPACE: RIGHT 50% TEXT SPACE — text will be overlaid on the right half of the page, so place all characters, objects and action on the LEFT half. The right ~50% of the image must be plain, simple background suitable for readable book text: no characters, no important objects, no detailed scenery, no ground texture, no clouds, no patterns, no clutter — use a flat or gently varied background colour there. Group the characters and action together in the illustration area rather than spreading them across the page.

SCENE-SPECIFIC DETAILS: Anansi triumphantly reaches the riverbed in the stone-stuffed reed jacket as Turtle serves him, with bulging pockets, a stone table, glowing dishes, and cool blue-green water surrounding the feast.

Anansi scurries up the bank and looks left and right. A fisherman is drying a thick reed jacket on a post. Perfect! Anansi stuffs the pockets with stones, three on each side, and slips the jacket on. It is heavy. Very heavy. But when he wades in and jumps, he sinks straight down, just like a proper diver. Turtle smiles and serves the feast. Spiced clams, smoked fish, sweet honey bites, all of it, and more.

Characters must match their references exactly — same body shape, proportions, eye style, colours, clothing and accessories — do not redesign them or invent new features. CHARACTER APPEARANCE: Turtle — match his reference; here he sits at the stone table eating serenely, small hat folded beside him, expression cheerful and entirely at ease. Anansi — match his reference; here he sits beside Turtle, arms completely pinned by the stiff reed jacket sides, unable to reach his bowl, expression one of absolute anguish. SCENE: At the underwater stone table, Reed jacket (match attached reference; worn with rigid weighted sides blocking Anansi's reach) confines Anansi (match attached reference; wearing the rigid stone-weighted reed jacket), leaving the steaming food agonizingly close and out of reach. Turtle (match attached reference) has neatly set down and folded his hat and eats peacefully while Anansi struggles to reach past the stiff sides. Illustrate only the action, emotion and setting of this page; do not add plot or details from other pages. Keep the scene clear and readable for a young child, showing only what this page needs. COMPOSITION / TEXT SPACE: TOP 50% TEXT SPACE — text will be overlaid on the top half of the page, so place all characters, objects and action in the BOTTOM ~50% of the image. The top ~50% must be plain, simple background suitable for readable book text: no characters, no important objects, no detailed scenery, no clouds, no patterns, no clutter — use a flat or gently varied background colour there. Group the characters and action together in the illustration area rather than spreading them across the page. IMPORTANT: Do not include any written text, letters, numbers, captions, speech bubbles, signs, labels, logos, or book text anywhere in the image. The image must be purely illustrative. Keep magical or Sky God moments wondrous rather than realistic urban scenes.
SCENE-SPECIFIC DETAILS: Anansi realises Turtle’s custom has trapped him while Turtle eats serenely, with the folded little hat, stiff reed jacket sides, unreachable bowl, and steaming clams making the punishment painfully clear.

Anansi reaches for the first dish. 'Before we eat,' says Turtle, 'we take off what we wear outside. It is the custom in my home.' Turtle sets down his small hat and folds it neatly. He looks at the reed jacket. Anansi looks at the reed jacket too. If he takes off the jacket, he floats up. If he keeps it on, he can not reach over its stiff, heavy sides. The clams steam. The fish smell so good. Turtle takes a big mouthful. Poor Anansi is just a watcher at the feast.

CHARACTER APPEARANCE: Anansi — match his reference; here he bursts from the water's surface, the reed jacket flapping open around him, stones arcing away in every direction, expression of total defeat. SCENE: At the river's surface, Six river stones (match attached reference; wet and scattering across the riverbank) bounce in all directions as Reed jacket (match attached reference; partly pulled off and flapping open as the stones spill out) flies open around Anansi (match attached reference; wearing the reed jacket partly pulled off and flapping open), who erupts upward out of the water and lands on the bank with a thump. A startled frog watches one bouncing stone; far below the water, Turtle (match attached reference) folds his napkin in peace. Illustrate only the action, emotion and setting of this page; do not add plot or details from other pages. Keep the scene clear and readable for a young child, showing only what this page needs. COMPOSITION / TEXT SPACE: LEFT 50% TEXT SPACE — text will be overlaid on the left half of the page, so place all characters, objects and action on the RIGHT half. Keep magical or Sky God moments wondrous rather than realistic urban scenes.
SCENE-SPECIFIC DETAILS: Anansi bursts from the river after the jacket fails, scattering stones through the air while the flapping reed coat, startled frog, wet bank, and Turtle’s faint underwater silhouette complete the comic reversal.

Anansi does not give up. He reaches this way and that way. No. He tips his bowl up to his mouth, but the bowl turns over. He slips one arm out. The jacket shifts, he tilts, and the water takes him up, up, and out. Anansi is a flier now! He spins slowly and lands on the bank with a thump, wet stones bouncing all over. Down below, Turtle eats the last of the fish and folds his napkin.

CHARACTER APPEARANCE: Turtle — match his reference; half-submerged, gentle smile, one webbed foot raised in farewell. Anansi — match his reference; soaking wet on the bank, holding one stone, surrounded by scattered stones, uncomfortable realisation. SCENE: Contemporary Ghanaian village riverbank with red-dirt path, water bucket, and painted wall detail. Turtle (match attached reference) says goodbye peacefully from the water while Anansi (match attached reference) sits dripping, hungry, and reflective among Six river stones (match attached reference; scattered around Anansi on the bank). COMPOSITION / TEXT SPACE: RIGHT 50% TEXT SPACE — place characters and action on the LEFT half, leaving the right 50% text area plain and uncluttered for text overlay.

Keep magical or Sky God moments wondrous rather than realistic urban scenes.
SCENE-SPECIFIC DETAILS: Anansi sits soaked and hungry as Turtle gives his polite farewell, with one loose stone in Anansi’s hand, scattered stones around him, the red-dirt path, and the water bucket nearby.

Turtle comes up a minute later, looking very full and very peaceful. 'I am sad, my friend,' he says, in a tone Anansi knows well. 'My belly is full, and the dishes are empty. Come back another time.' Anansi sits on the bank, wet and hungry, with his stones all about him. He thinks about the dusty road. He thinks about the two trips to the river. He thinks about the empty pots. Turtle is a fine teacher. 'A guest remembers how he is fed,' says Turtle, and he slips under the water.

CHARACTER APPEARANCE: Anansi — match his reference; seated across from the guinea-fowl guest, feeding it with genuine warmth. Guinea-fowl — generic dusty helmeted guinea-fowl. SCENE: Warm contemporary Ghanaian compound kitchen, patterned tablecloth, enamel bowls, metal pots, plastic water bucket, painted walls, and the reed jacket hanging as a reminder. Anansi (match attached reference) immediately serves a dusty guinea-fowl traveller a generous meal at the table, without a single trip to the river. COMPOSITION / TEXT SPACE: TOP 50% TEXT SPACE — keep characters and action in the bottom half, leaving the top 50% text area plain and uncluttered for text overlay.

Keep magical or Sky God moments wondrous rather than realistic urban scenes.
SCENE-SPECIFIC DETAILS: Anansi finally feeds a dusty guinea-fowl guest without delay, sharing enamel bowls at the patterned table while metal pots, painted walls, a plastic water bucket, and the hanging reed jacket mark his remembered lesson.

Anansi goes home and sits by his cold pots for a while. Then he buys yams and nuts and cooks enough for four. The next visitor is a dusty guinea-fowl from a long road. Anansi serves the food right away, at the table, with no trip to the river. It is not because Anansi is kind now. It is because Anansi has a very good memory. A guest remembers how he is fed, and so does a host who has been a guest. Anansi learns fast.
