Fig Pig and the Dark Cave UFLI Foundations Lesson 80

Fig Pig and Player stand at the cave. It is darker in there. 'Look!' Fig Pig yells. 'A tall dark monster is in the cave! Its face is lit up!' Player steps back. But Fig Pig steps up. Fig Pig is never shy.

It is dark now. Fig Pig is in the yard. The monster stands by his home. A flash zips up into the sky. Fig Pig shivers. 'Why is it so mad?' he whispers. He wants to look to the side. But he can not.

'Why do they grab blocks?' Fig Pig asks Player. 'Where do they take them? It is a big problem.' He marches to the cave. 'We will enter,' says Fig Pig. 'Enter?' asks Player. 'Yes,' says Fig Pig. 'We will enter together.'

The monster is so tall up close. It is bigger than big. Fig Pig trembles. 'It is just the cold,' he mutters. 'Do not look at its face,' Player whispers from behind a rock. Fig Pig looks to the side. 'So, mister,' he says. 'Why so mad?'

The monster never says a thing. It does not blink. It just grabs a block. It tucks the block under one long arm. Then, zap! It is gone. It fades into the dark. 'Hey!' Fig Pig yells. 'Do not run off!'

Zap! The monster is back with its block. Fig Pig gets quiet. He looks at the monster. It holds the block like a gift. Not like a robber. Like a kid with a best toy. 'Oh,' Fig Pig says. 'They are not robbers. They want to make stuff with blocks, just like us. But no one ever lets them in.'

A huge dragon flies over the land. The monster shivers under it. Wham! The dragon smashes every block. Every wall. Every home. The monster yells and yells. That is why they are so upset. They remember it, ever after.

Fig Pig stands by the fence. He looks at the monster on the path. Sparks glitter by it like small stars. 'He is not mad,' Fig Pig whispers. 'He is upset, just like me. He yells because he wants a friend. He wants us to let him in.'
