A Nap at Last UFLI Foundations Lesson 81
Practice Words
Sloth's arms are limp. His legs are limp. Sloth must rest. 'I must nap,' says Sloth. 'But first, I must find the best spot.'
Sloth spots a tall tree. 'That is the spot for me,' he says. He grips the trunk and starts up. Sloth is not fast, but his grip is firm.
Sloth finds a branch with a curve in it. He hangs on with all four and curls up. 'This is the spot,' says Sloth. He shuts his lids.
Snap! Giraffe nips at Sloth's fur! The moss on his fur looks like a plant. 'Stop, Giraffe, stop! That hurts!' yells Sloth. He scrambles up the tree.
Sloth finds a fresh branch far up. A soft wind stirs his fur. 'This is the spot,' says Sloth. He shuts his lids.
Buzz, buzz! A big hive hangs on the branch. Bugs swirl by Sloth. 'I must go,' says Sloth. 'Do not sting me!'
Sloth hugs the trunk and squints up. He sees a green curl on the branch up top. 'Who lurks up there?' asks Sloth.
Ssssss! Snake bursts up and hisses at Sloth. 'This is my spot!' hisses Snake. 'Go, Sloth, go!' Sloth squirms and scrambles up fast.
Sloth's arms hurt. All of him hurts. He must rest. Up top he spots a fresh branch. A bird sits on the branch next to it. 'I beg you, let this be the spot,' says Sloth.
Chirp, chirp, chirp! Bird chirps and chirps. It is not a soft chirp. It is a big, big chirp. 'Hush, Bird, hush!' says Sloth. But Bird chirps on.
Sloth goes up to the top of the tree, the last spot. He curls up snug and shuts his lids. No Giraffe. No bugs. No Snake. No Bird. At last, Sloth naps.
At sunset, they all settle in. Sloth naps first, at the top. Bird perches next. Snake curls up on the third branch. Giraffe stands under the tree. 'Where can I nap?' asks Giraffe. Hush! They all nap. Well, all but the bugs.
