On the right side of the image, Girl is kneeling on a bed, leaning forward with a worried, surprised expression and her mouth open, as if she has just noticed Kit is missing. Kit the cat is partially visible hiding under the bed in the bottom-right corner, peeking out. The scene is set indoors in a bedroom with blue curtains on the right and a light-coloured wall behind. The left side of the image is plain background.

Joy sat up in bed. She felt restless right away. Kit was gone. Kit had been right there on her pillow last night. Now there was just a Kit-shaped dent and one white whisker. 'Kit, where are you?' Joy called. No answer. Just a tiny thump from under the bed. But when Joy leaned over to look, nothing was there.

Page 2
On the left side of the image, Girl stands on a sidewalk beside a wooden fence, looking back over her shoulder with a curious, slightly puzzled expression as she searches for Kit. Behind the fence on the other side, Kit is walking along the ground near some bushes and a raised suburban house, unnoticed by Girl. The scene is set outdoors on a bright daytime suburban street with green bushes, trees, and soft clouds in the sky. The right side of the image is plain white background, clear for text overlay.

Joy ran to the yard gate. 'Kit!' she called up the path. 'Kit!' she called down the path. No cat. Then a tiny 'mew' came from right behind her. She spun around. But all she saw was the fence. Joy was clueless.

Page 3
On the right side of the image, Girl stands on a stone path next to a large, blue lidded pot, leaning forward with one hand raised to her chin in a curious, puzzled expression as she peers around it. Kit is crouched low on the ground behind the base of the pot, partially hidden, appearing to be sneaking or hiding with eyes slightly closed. The scene is set outdoors on a sunny day in a suburban yard with green grass and hedges in the background.

Joy ran to the big blue pot in the yard. That pot was Kit's peaceful spot. She slept on top of it every single day. Every. Single. Day. But the lid was empty. Joy gave the lid a tap just in case. 'Kit? Are you in the pot?' Nothing. Nothing at all. That cat was up to something.

Page 4
On the left side of the image, Girl stands beside a large blue pot with a lid, holding one hand to her chin with a worried, panicked expression as she looks around frantically searching for her cat. Kit is crouched low on the right side of the pot, sneaking around its base with a mischievous posture — Girl hasn't noticed her yet. The scene is set outdoors on a grassy yard with soft clouds in the sky, and the right ~40% of the image is plain light background.

Joy looked behind the pot. She looked beside the pot. She even looked under the pot, which was pointless. A pot sits flat on the grass! 'This is dreadful!' Joy said. 'This is frightful! This is the worst morning of my life!' Then a soft purr came from very close by. Very, very close.

Page 5
On the right side of the image, Girl is seen from above in the far upper-right corner, crouching or bending down near a bush beside the back of the house, searching through the branches with a determined expression. The scene is an outdoor backyard view shown from a high angle, with a house featuring a grey roof, a raised porch with wooden stairs, and a blue rain barrel beside it. The yard has green grass and dirt paths. The left side of the image is plain light background. Kit is partially visible as a small dark figure tucked underneath the house near the stilts at the bottom.

Joy ran to the back of the house and pushed her arms into the big bush by the porch. Leaves went up her sleeves and a twig poked her cheek. 'Kit, if you are in this bush, you are in a big mess!' Kit was not in the bush. But Joy came out covered in leaves, which was not helpful at all.

Page 6
On the left side of the image, Girl stands at the front of a suburban house viewed from a high overhead angle, running toward the building with a searching, alert posture and one hand cupped near her ear as if listening. The house is a raised suburban home with a metal roof, wooden deck, and a ladder leading up to it, surrounded by a green lawn and a dirt path. Kit is visible sneaking along the far edge of the rooftop behind the house, completely out of Girl's line of sight. The right side of the image is open plain background. The scene is set outdoors on a bright, clear day.

'Mew!' There it was again! Joy ran back up to the house and tilted her head to one side. She was on the hunt. She stood very still. Where was the sound? Up? Down? Left? Joy spun around three times and felt dizzy. 'My cat radar is useless today,' she groaned.

Page 7
On the right side of the image, Girl is crouching on her hands and knees beside a wooden cupboard in her bedroom, peering underneath it with a curious, slightly puzzled expression as she searches for Kit. Kit is perched on top of the cupboard, peeking over the edge and looking down at Girl with a mischievous expression — hidden in plain sight while Girl searches below. The left side of the image is plain white/light green background, clear for text overlay.

Joy gave up and rushed back inside. She got down on her hands and knees beside the big cabinet. 'Kit loves small, dark spots,' Joy told herself. 'She is probably wedged under it, just grinning at me.' Joy pressed her cheek to the floor and peered into the gap. Dust. One lost sock. Zero cats. How hopeless!

Page 8
On the left side of the image, Girl stands on a small blue stool next to a tall wooden cupboard, reaching up and peering over the top with a determined, slightly frustrated expression as she searches for Kit. Underneath the cupboard, Kit is hiding — peeking out with a mischievous look, unseen by Girl. The scene is set indoors against a soft, light green wall with a plain white background extending to the right.

Joy dragged over her blue stool and climbed up to check the top of the cabinet. The hunt felt endless. More dust. A rubber band. An old book. No Kit. 'I have looked high. I have looked low. I have looked in a bush,' Joy said. 'Where can Kit be?'

Page 9
On the right side of the image, Girl stands beside a bookshelf mounted on a green bedroom wall, reaching up with one hand to search through the colourful books on the shelf, her expression worried and concerned. A blue chair sits in the centre-right area. The scene is set indoors in a cosy bedroom with soft lighting. Kit is not here in this room at all.

Joy went to the bookshelf. One by one, she took each book down. No Kit. No Kit. No Kit. 'Come on, Kit. This is not funny.' Well. Maybe a tiny bit funny. Just a little bit. But mostly not. Joy sank into her blue seat with a woeful sigh and put her head in her hands.

Page 10
On the left side of the image, Girl is crouching down beside her bed, leaning forward with her hands on the floor as she peers underneath it with a hopeful, focused expression. The space under the bed is dark and empty — Kit is not there. The scene is set indoors in Girl's bedroom, with a blue curtain visible in the background and the bed with a light blue mattress on a pink frame. The right side of the image is plain white background.

Wait. There was one spot Joy had not checked. Joy crouched down beside her bed and peered under it. Kit treated that spot like her own private room. She even kept a handful of dust bunnies under there. Joy felt hopeful. She squinted into the dark. Empty.

Page 11
On the right side of the image, Girl is standing with one hand raised to her chin in a classic thinking pose, looking upward with a worried, puzzled expression — mouth slightly open as if talking to herself. The left side of the image is plain white background. Behind Girl is a soft, pale green watercolour wash. The scene conveys her frustration at having run out of ideas for where her cat might be hiding, as she considers calling for help.

Joy stood up and put her hands on her hips. She felt helpless. She had checked the yard, the house, and even inside a bush. 'That is it,' Joy said. 'I need Mum. I need a jet with spotlights. I need a tracking dog. I need a robot with cat-finding lasers!' Joy walked back to her bed to sit down and think. And that was when she saw it.

Page 12
On the left side of the image, Girl kneels beside her bed with a wide, joyful smile, lifting up the edge of a golden-yellow blanket to reveal Kit lying curled up underneath, looking content with a gentle smile. Kit is lounging comfortably on the teal bedsheet, paws tucked in front, with a pair of green sunglasses resting on top of her head. Girl's expression is one of relief and happiness at finally finding her cat. The bed has colourful layered bedding in teal, pink, and warm red tones. The right side of the image is plain white background.

A lump. A soft, purring, cat-shaped lump, right under the blanket. Joy lifted the corner and there was Kit. Curled up. Cosy. Joy's sunglasses sat on Kit's head. Kit looked like a tiny film star on holiday. 'Kit!' Joy scooped her up and pressed her face into Kit's fur. 'You were right there all that time?' Joy was so grateful she did not even mind. Kit yawned. Blissful.
