Anansi Shakes UFLI Foundations Lesson 61
Practice Words
Python is huge. He sits at the step of Anansi's home, and Anansi quakes.
Python is in a rage. 'I will have a big bite!' he says. Anansi shakes. He must make a plan, fast.
'Stop!' says Anansi. 'A huge king must not grab me as all snakes do. A king must be grand!'
Anansi lifts up a red rope. Python looks at the rope, and his face changes.
'A king can make the best knot,' says Anansi, like a sage. Python puffs up. He wants to be that king.
Anansi makes a ring with the rope on the branch. 'This strange knot is for a king,' he says. 'Just a king can make it.'
Python bends in one ring, then two, then three. He bulges and twists, but he grins and grins.
Python lunges to make the last ring. 'A king makes the best knot!' he says. But then Python is stuck. He can not move at all.
Python rages and thrashes, but the rope has a snug grip on him. Anansi dashes off down the path with a big grin.
Python is in a huge rage. 'A trick! A bad trick!' he yells. Anansi stops on the path. He looks back with a gulp.
Anansi has a twinge. He walks back and tugs the rope till it is slack. 'What a knot!' says Anansi. 'No snake can make a knot like this. Just a grand king can.' And Python is glad.
Python glides off, and Anansi skips home with the rope. It is all so strange, but it ends fine. And Anansi is wise. He can use a fine rope.
