Who Made the Lamps Blink? UFLI Foundations Lesson 59
Practice Words
The lights rise up so big and so tall. A kid grins and waves his flag. 'This is the best!' he yells.
All the homes shine past dusk. Up in the black, The Dark is mad. 'All these lights,' it hisses. 'This is my time!'
The Dark shuts off a lamp in one home. The kid hides in his bed. 'Who turned off the lights?' he says.
One small flame shines in the home. The kids doze in bed, and the cat mopes.
But the streets still shine. Cars drive past a kid and his dog. 'I must shut them all off!' The Dark fumes.
Click! All of it shuts off at once. Cars can't stop in time. Crash! They get stuck. 'Who turned off the lights?' the men yell.
At the fest, the kids ride and ride. The big ride spins and shines. 'I hate it,' The Dark hisses.
Click! The rides stop. No hum and no tune. A kid gazes up, sad.
One tall light still shines by the tide. It helps the ships get past the rocks. 'That is the last one,' The Dark hisses.
Click! A vast ship rides the big waves. A small kid is in its path. He is not safe! He yells for help. 'What did I do?' The Dark gasps.
The Dark lets it all go. The homes shine, and the cars whizz by. But The Dark is up there, sad and small.
Then the kids come to have fun in the dark. One has a lamp, and one waves a stick that shines. 'These shine best with the dark!' a kid calls. The Dark smiles a wide smile.
