Find the Lost Pink! UFLI Foundations Lesson 74
Practice Words
Tess likes socks best of all. Spotty socks, stripy socks, frilly socks. She hugs the big pile of socks.
The socks sit in a big box by the bed. But the best socks hide in a small box, all snug and cosy. Tess lifts the small box. 'The best socks are safe,' she says.
Tess checks the box. It is empty! The best socks are not there! Tess is upset. She tugs on odd socks and grabs the cap. 'I will hunt for the socks,' she tells Mum.
Tess thinks of the best socks. Pink socks with plum dots and a frilly top. 'Those socks are so classy,' she says sadly. 'Where can they be?'
Tess gets a big glass lens and hunts. She checks the rug. She checks behind the pad. She checks by the desk. Then she checks inside the pot. Yucky! No socks yet.
Then Tess spots a scrap on the rug. It is pink with plum dots! 'That is from the best socks!' she gasps. 'The socks got cut up! This is nasty.'
Tess tracks the scraps to a big door. She peeks in with the glass lens. Mum is inside. Snip, snip! 'What can Mum be making?' Tess says softly.
Tess dashes in. 'Mum! Where are the best socks?' Mum smiles. 'Those socks had holes, Tess. So ratty! So shabby!' Then Mum holds up a gift.
It is a doll made from the best socks! It has fluffy locks and a small hat, just like Tess. It has a cute frill at the neck. 'It is a tiny me!' Tess gasps.
Tess hugs Mum. 'This is better than socks!' she yells. Then she blinks. 'Can any old sock be a doll?' Mum nods. Tess grins a big happy grin.
Tess drags Mum off at top speed. 'Check the box! Check by the bed!' she yells. Tess holds up a stripy sock. 'I bet Dad has lots of ratty old socks!'
Tess and Mum sit on the bed and make lots of dolls. Chubby dolls, skinny dolls, silly dolls. 'We will make one for all my friends,' Tess says. What a happy, crafty day!
