Dot Can! UFLI Foundations Lesson 67
Practice Words
Max has a big wish. Max wants to fly. He grabs his backpack and walks up the path. 'This is it!' says Max.
On the path, Max has a fantastic wish. He can see it all. Max in a plane, up, up, up! Fans clap and yell, 'Max! Max!'
Flap, flap, flap! Max flaps a lot, but then, splat! He lands flat on the hilltop. 'Ha, ha!' yell the kids in his class. What a mishap!
'Just quit, Max,' says one kid. 'Birds like you don't fly.' Max is upset. He walks off on the path, sad and glum.
'Birds like me don't fly,' says Max. He is so upset. But Max can not let go of his wish. What if he can fly, just not like them?
Then Max has a plan. He can invent big wings! Max grabs stuff, cuts it, and tapes it. Bang, bang, bang! At last, the big wings are set.
Max checks a book on wings, and he makes his plans. Then he makes the wings big and strong. Max straps them on and inspects them. They flex. They bend. They fit! 'Splendid!' says Max.
Max stands on the wall at the top of the hill. At the bottom, fans look up at him. Some clap, and some yell, 'No, Max!' Max bends his legs and jumps.
Whoosh! The wind lifts Max up, up, up! He dips, he spins, he zips in a zigzag. 'Birds like me do fly!' yells Max.
Max lands with a skid and a big grin. He lifts up his passes. He did it all himself! 'Birds like me do fly,' says Max. 'I just have big wings!'
