On the right side of the image, Skel stands facing forward in a grassy outdoor field, holding a walking stick at his side, while Bones trots alongside him slightly to the left on all fours, wearing his bright red bandana around his neck. Both move together through the green landscape along a dirt path. The scene is set during daytime with bright lighting, with trees visible in the background. Bones stays close to Skel, alert and content at his side.

Bones learned it all from Skel. How to track a smell. How to creep through tall grass with no sound. How to sit still when a rabbit was close. Bones was the best hunting dog in the valley, and he knew it. He trotted next to Skel with his snout up and his red cloth flapping in the wind, like he owned every grassy hill they passed.

Page 2
On the left side of the image, Bones stands on all fours facing the viewer with a wide-eyed, terrified expression, wearing his bright red bandana, positioned on a muddy path beside a large fallen tree trunk. His body is tense and frozen in place. Skel stands slightly behind Bones on the right, looking concerned and reaching a hand toward him. The scene is outdoors at night during a storm, with dark, ominous lighting and rain streaks visible against a dense wooded background.

Bones was brave. Snakes? No problem. Crossing rivers? Easy. A bossy goat that once chased them both up a tree? Bones had laughed about that for days. But storms? Storms were different. One night, a terrible storm trapped them far from home. Rain hit the muddy path and thunder shook the ground. Bones froze next to a fallen tree, shaking.

Page 3
On the right side of the image, Skel stands alone in a rainy open field of tall grass, facing forward with a distressed, calling-out expression, one hand cupped near his mouth. Rain pours down from a dark stormy sky, and wind whips the grass around him. In the far distance on the left, a small dark shape of Bones is barely visible vanishing into the storm, just a silhouette disappearing into the rain and darkness. The left side of the image is mostly dark stormy background suitable for text overlay.

'Easy, boy,' Skel said softly. 'It's just a sound. Stay with me.' Then the loudest crack of thunder yet split the sky. Bones ran. He ran so fast his paws hardly touched the ground. Skel shouted his name once, twice, three times. But Bones was far off, just a dark shape in the rain.

Page 4
Skel stands on the left side of the image on a grassy hillside, facing forward with a weary, determined expression. The scene is set outdoors late at night during a heavy rainstorm, with diagonal rain streaking across a dark blue-grey sky and shadowy hills visible in the background. Slippery rocks and a dark ditch are faintly visible on the terrain. Skel appears small and alone against the vast, stormy landscape, conveying the exhaustion of searching for hours.

Skel looked for Bones for hours. He went up slick rocks and stumbled into ditches, calling until his voice was raw. 'Bones! Bones!' Nothing answered but the wind. Well past midnight, Skel slowly turned for home. He would rest and try again at dawn. But every step away from those dark hills felt wrong.

Page 5
On the right side of the image, Skel sits hunched on the floor with a subdued, worried expression, staring blankly at a bowl of hot food in front of him. On the left, Zom stands nearby facing Skel, having just brought the food, looking at his friend with quiet concern. The scene is set indoors in a dimly lit room with warm but low lighting and deep brown tones, reflecting the sombre mood. The atmosphere feels heavy, with Skel's worry filling the small space.

Back home, Zom set a bowl of hot food by Skel. Skel pushed it around with his spoon and stared at nothing. He kept glancing at the door, listening for the scratch of paws. All was silent. 'He's tough,' Zom said kindly. 'He'll find a dry spot to sleep.' Skel shook his head. 'He's scared, Zom. Scared and on his own. Tough will not help him now.'

Page 6
On the left side of the image, Skel sits alone in the warm glow of the house interior, eyes half-closed with a tired, drained expression, finally able to rest. On the right side, Zom is visible near a doorway heading out into the dark night, glancing back toward Skel with a determined look before going to search for Bones. The scene is set indoors with warm amber lighting from a lamp or fire, contrasting with the cold dark visible through the open door. The right side transitions to dark background suitable for text overlay.

Zom watched his friend. Then he grabbed his coat. 'You rest,' he said firmly. 'I'll go look.' 'You can stay,' said Skel. 'I know.' Zom pulled the door open and the cold night rushed in. 'But I'm going to.' Skel leaned back, thankful, and closed his eyes.

Page 7
On the right side of the image, Bones stands on all fours on a forest floor covered in fallen leaves, wearing his bright red bandana, looking cautious and wary with wide eyes as he notices a pack of wolves watching him from between the tall tree trunks. The scene is set in a dark, dense forest with dim lighting. Three wolves stand among the trees on the far right, partially hidden, their eyes glinting as they observe Bones. The left side of the image is a plain dark background area clear of characters.

Bones had run so far that nothing looked the same. The thunder had stopped, but now he was deep in a dark forest with no clue where home was. His belly growled. That was when he saw them. Three wolves between the trees, watching with pale eyes. Bones froze. The biggest one tilted its head. Then slowly it turned and walked deeper into the forest. Bones followed.

Page 8
On the left side of the image, Bones runs on all fours through a forest floor covered in autumn leaves, wearing his bright red bandana, with an alert, thrilled expression as he hunts alongside the wolf pack. Two wolves run beside him through the woodland setting, with tall trees and autumn foliage overhead and dappled light filtering through the canopy. Bones moves with confidence and energy, fully part of the pack. The right side of the image is a dark, shadowy area of forest background suitable for text overlay.

Days passed. Bones hunted with the wolves through gold and copper leaf piles. He learned to move swiftly, with no sound. He learned their rules: eat fast, sleep light, trust no one. The wolves never scratched him behind the ears. They never said 'good boy.' But they let him run next to them, and that was enough. Or so Bones told himself.

Page 9
On the right side of the image, Bones runs energetically on all fours across a forest floor covered in fallen autumn leaves, with no red bandana — his neck is bare. Several wolves run alongside him through the wooded outdoor setting, which is dimly lit under a canopy of dark trees. Autumn leaves scatter behind the running pack. A bright red bandana lies discarded on the ground behind the group, snagged on a low branch. Bones appears determined and free-spirited, fully in stride with the wolves.

One morning, Bones raced through the trees, kicking up red and gold leaf piles behind him. His red cloth snagged on a branch and dropped to the ground. Bones glanced back. He almost stopped. But the wolves had no red cloth. The wolves had nothing at all. So Bones kept running and left it in the dirt.

Page 10
On the left side of the image, Zom stands in a forest clearing, facing Bones with his arms slightly out and one hand extended, approaching cautiously with a hopeful but worried expression. Bones is on all fours directly in front of Zom in a low, defensive crouch, baring his teeth in a growl with a fierce, wild look in his eyes — no red bandana around his neck. The scene is set outdoors in a dense forest with tall trees and leaf-covered ground, under dim, dusky lighting. The right side of the image is open dark background suitable for text overlay.

Zom found him in a forest clearing. 'Bones!' He knelt and reached out his hand. 'Time to go home, boy.' Bones dropped low. A growl rumbled in his chest, and his teeth flashed. Zom pulled his hand back. This was not the Bones he knew. This was a wilder creature, and it did not want to go home.

Page 11
On the right side of the image, Skel stands facing toward a large tree trunk, having just arrived in the forest, with a hopeful, emotional expression. Bones peeks out from behind the tree on the far right, partially visible on all fours with a cautious but softening expression, no red bandana around his neck. Their eyes meet across the short distance. The scene is set outdoors in a forest clearing at dusk, with green foliage, tall trees, and warm light filtering through the canopy. The left side of the image is open background suitable for text overlay.

Zom hurried back and told Skel where to find him. Skel went on his own. He did not call out. He did not make a sound. He walked into the forest and waited. Bones was hiding behind a tree. He peeked out, ready to run. Then their eyes met, and it all rushed back. Bones remembered a hand that scratched his ears. A voice that said 'easy, boy.' A path where two friends walked side by side. He missed Skel so much it hurt.

Page 12
On the left side of the image, Skel walks forward along a leaf-covered forest path with a happy, laughing expression, one hand scratching Bones behind the ears. Bones walks beside him on all fours, staying close, looking up at Skel with a joyful, nuzzling expression — no red bandana around his neck. Zom stands slightly behind them, smiling warmly and holding out a treat toward Bones. Warm autumn light filters through the canopy of tall trees, casting a golden glow on the trio as they head home together. The right side of the image is a softly blurred autumn background suitable for text overlay.

They walked home together in the soft fall light. Bones pressed so close to Skel's leg that Skel kept tripping. 'Easy, easy,' Skel laughed. 'I missed you too.' Zom hurried down the path with a treat. Bones licked his whole face. 'I think that means sorry,' said Skel. 'I think that means more treats,' said Zom. Bones wagged his tail so hard his whole body wiggled. He was the happiest dog in the valley, and he knew it.
