Each day, I lean on my oak cane and coach my girls. I watch them twirl and leap. When I was young, my goal was to dance.
On a warm night, I would float through the town. I would swing round the lamp post by the clock and the bridge. I felt so free, so bold, so bright.
I had a fine new dress for each show. And I found a dance partner who could match my stride. We would take the stage and float as one.
I hit the road to roam the globe. From coast to coast, I would leap through the sky. The whole world was my stage.
I would not rest. I would not moan. I would not groan. Through the night, past the moon and the stars, I would chase my goal.
The crowd would clap, cheer, and shout. My partner would hold me, and we would float on stage. The crowd would raise a toast to us that night.
A glow would coat me like a cloak. They would toss red roses at my feet. I would close my eyes, soak it all in, and smile. I would be the Prima Ballerina.
And now, I own my own dance school. My girls leap and twirl on the oak floor. My goal came to life. And theirs will too.
