What Is That Brute? UFLI Foundations Lesson 58
Practice Words
Gus steps from the cave. The sun is up. 'This land is so cute!' says Gus. 'I will get a pal!'
Kit and Val hide in the grass. They see a big shape. 'Is it a brute?' asks Kit.
Gus spots a bike by a home. He pats it and waves. 'Can I use this bike?' asks Gus.
Gus grips the bike. Crack! The bike is flat. 'Run!' yells Kit. 'It is a big brute!'
'Don't go!' yells Gus. Gus can not mute his big yell. The home shakes, and Kit runs and runs.
Gus sobs and sobs. Big drops drip down his chin. 'Kids assume I am a brute,' he sobs.
Kit and Val look from the home. Drip, drop! Big drops splash on the home. The drops confuse Kit and Val.
Kit sits with the flat bike. He spots Gus by the plants. 'Gus is not a brute,' says Kit. 'He is a big sad kid.'
Gus sobs by the plants, and the twigs shake. Kit walks up to him. 'A brute would not sob,' says Kit.
'I am Kit!' calls Kit. 'I am Gus,' sobs Gus. 'I broke the bike. I am so rude.' 'We can fix the bike,' says Kit.
'Have fun with us, dude!' says Kit. Gus grins a big grin. 'Yes!' says Gus. 'Yes, yes, yes!'
Gus takes his pals to the cave. Grub fills the rocks! 'Have grub, pals!' says Gus. They snack and chat and hum fun tunes. Gus has pals at last.
