What Did I Sketch? UFLI Foundations Lesson 69
Practice Words
This is Cal. Cal has a big sketchpad, and his sketches are topnotch. 'Guess what I sketch!' Cal yells. No one can guess it. Not once!
Cal grins and sketches a big ring. Then he sketches two small rings on top. 'Guess what it is!' says Cal. 'I bet no one can!'
Look! The sketch has two big eyes. The eyes blink up from the page. Is it a frog? Cal says, 'No, no! Not yet!'
Cal fills the big ring with black strokes. Stroke after stroke, till it is solid black. He does not rush. The strokes must match.
Next, Cal sketches a box shape. A box with big eyes on top? What pet is like that? Cal just grins. 'Not yet!'
Then Cal attaches legs to the box shape. Small legs with small flat feet. The legs match, side to side. 'See?' says Cal. 'A topnotch match!'
Cal checks his laptop. Then he etches a big, wide grin on the sketch. Is it a cat? Cal just smiles. 'Not a cat!'
Cal stands up and grins. 'One last thing to attach,' he says. 'Just one small thing. Then no one can miss it!'
Cal attaches a tail. A tail that wags and wags! What pet wags its tail like that? Can you guess it?
It is a dog! A topnotch dog with a big black nose. See the small lines? That is soft fuzz. This is the best dog Cal has sketched yet!
Can you sketch a dog like Cal? Sketch small shapes, step by step. Add the legs, and attach a tail that wags. Then hold it up and yell, 'Guess what I sketch!'
