What Bit the Plum? UFLI Foundations Lesson 48
Practice Words
Kim tugs the kid. Quick! They dash off to pick a bunch from the guava plant.
Look up at that branch! A big chomp is in the guava! What bit it?
Did this bug munch it? No! Such a small bug can not munch that much.
Next, the kid spots a bug on a branch. Kim says no. Bugs munch grass!
Did the hen peck it? No! A hen can not get to this branch.
It is dusk. Kim has a hunch. "It chomps at dusk!" yells Kim.
Kim grabs a cloth. Camp and check! The kid wants a nap.
Kim scans the plant with the lamp. They check and check. Zilch!
They sit snug in the tent. Flap, flap, flap! The kid gets chills.
Look up! A black thing hangs from the branch. Munch, crunch! It chomps the guava!
It is a bat! Not a bug and not a hen. Bats munch at dusk!
The bat is chock full. Kim and the kid nap, snug at last.
