That Was My Joke! UFLI Foundations Lesson 78
Practice Words
It is morning. The sun is hot on the sand path. Dr. Can Do stands by his home and grins up at the sun. He has a joke for Christmas. It is the best joke in all the land. 'I will tell my joke when we dine,' he says. 'All will giggle so hard their hats fall off.'
Jill is at the shore. She stands in the sand by the waves. Minx splashes in and has fun. Dr. Can Do tells Jill a joke. But Jill yells the end of it before he can! 'That was my joke!' he yells. 'Jill stole my punchline!'
Jill and The Mage stand by a big plant. It has little lamps on it. Big gifts sit by the plant. Dr. Can Do tells one more joke. But The Mage tells the end of it! He does not look up from his book. 'Not once more!' Dr. Can Do yells. Jill giggles.
The Mage finds a gift. 'This gift is for me,' he says with a big smug grin. Dr. Can Do is upset. But he still has one more joke. It is his best one, and it is a secret. He will tell it when they dine, and nobody will snatch that punchline.
Time to dine! Hats on. Candles lit. Dr. Can Do starts his best joke at the table. But Jill yells the punchline before he can end it! All of them giggle and giggle. The Mage snorts so hard his hat drops off. Minx barks. Jill has stolen the punchline once more!
Jill is in bed with a belly full of ham. She smiles. 'That was such a fun Christmas,' she says. 'Best of all, I stole the punchline.' Then she dozes off. She snores a tiny snore.
