Pup is sitting on the left side of the image in front of a bush, looking upward with a drowsy, slightly annoyed expression and closed eyes, as if bothered by the loud chirping sounds. The outdoor scene has a warm, golden-orange background suggesting a sunny afternoon. The right side of the image is plain open background.

Chirp! Chirp! Chirp! Pup sits by his big bush. He lets out a big, sleepy yawn. He shuts one eye. He shuts the other eye. The sun feels so nice. This will be a long, cozy nap. Chirp! Chirp! 'Stop it!' Pup cries. 'I need one tiny nap. One! Who is so noisy? I am so sleepy!'

Pup is on the right side of the image, crouching low and sniffing around a patch of grass and bushes with a curious, alert expression and ears perked high as he searches for the source of the chirping sounds. The outdoor scene has a warm golden-orange background suggesting a sunny day. The left side of the image is plain open background.

Pup drops his nose to the ground. Sniff. Sniff. Sniff. 'I will find the chirper,' he says. 'I will find the chirper and ask it to stop.' He checks behind one bush. Nothing. He checks behind another bush. Nothing. Pup keeps trying. But the chirping gets noisier. Chirp! Chirp!

On the left side of the image, Trunk stands in the grass, leaning forward with his trunk extended toward Pup. Pup sits facing Trunk, looking up with a curious, happy expression, ears perked and tail raised. The two are close together, as if greeting each other. The scene is set outdoors in a sunny backyard meadow with green and golden grass that fills the background.

Pup dashes past the tall grass and bumps right into Trunk. 'Got you!' Pup barks. 'Trunk, you are the chirper!' Trunk blinks. Then Trunk opens his big mouth to chirp. 'Toot!' goes Trunk. That is not a chirp. That is not a chirp at all. Pup tries not to laugh.

In the lower half of the image, Pup peeks out from behind a golden-yellow bush on the left, looking toward the right with a curious, wide-eyed expression and mouth slightly open. Spike stands in the lower right, partially nestled among the bushes with quills raised, facing toward Pup. The scene is set outdoors in a field of dense golden bushes against a warm late-afternoon sky.

Chirp! Chirp! There it is again! Pup pushes past the bushes and spots Spike, all puffed up and prickly, with every quill pointing out. Spike does not look happy. 'Spike! Are you the chirper?' Pup asks. Spike puffs up even bigger and opens his mouth as wide as he can. All that comes out is a long, angry hiss. That is not a chirp. That is not a chirp at all. 'Sorry, Spike!' Pup sighs.

On the right side of the image, Pup hangs upside down from a thick tree branch, gripping it with all four paws, looking up with a curious, wide-eyed expression. Several toucans are perched along the branches around and above Pup, sitting calmly and facing various directions. The scene is set outdoors among leafy tree branches with a muted green background.

'It must be a bird,' Pup says. 'Chirping is what birds do!' Pup scrambles up a tree and hangs upside down from a branch, nose to beak with a row of birds. 'All right, who is the chirper? Own up!' The birds stare at Pup. Not one bird chirps. Not even a peep. 'Why?' Pup cries. 'Every bush! Every tree! Where is that tricky chirper?'

On the left side of the image, Pup is curled up on the ground with eyes closed and a peaceful, content smile, finally settling down for a nap. Several small crickets are perched on the leafy branch in the upper-left corner, sitting quietly. The outdoor scene has a warm, dusky reddish-purple background suggesting evening twilight, with the right side of the image left as plain background.

Then a chirp comes from right above his head. Four tiny crickets sit on a leaf. Chirp! Chirp! Chirp! Pup stares at the crickets. The crickets stare back. 'You?' Pup whispers. 'Was it you all that time?' The crickets look at each other. Then the crickets stop. Hush. And Pup, at last, curls up and sleeps. Not a sound. Not a chirp. Happy dreams, Pup.
