Here is Cod. Cod is a cute fish with green fins. Cod swims in the deep blue sea. Cod is quick, so quick that no man can get him.
If a man gets close, Cod flicks his fins and darts into the kelp. It is a fine ruse. Cod grins. 'No man can get me!'
The sea is wide and empty. No boats. No nets. No rods. All the men assume no one can get Cod. But one dude will not quit.
Steve stands on the coast. 'I will get that cod,' he yells. 'I will cook him and consume him!' Steve has no rod, no net and no boat. But Steve is an extreme dude.
Splash! Steve dives deep into the blue sea. Cod darts into a log to hide. 'This dude is no athlete,' thinks Cod. 'He will not get me.'
Steve peeks in the log. It is empty. Cod is not there. Steve looks left. He looks up. He looks deep. The dark sea and the kelp confuse him.
A flash of green in the kelp! Steve kicks close. He is mute. He grabs at Cod. Swish! Cod slips past his fingers and shoots off.
Steve chases Cod to a dune of sand. Cod is not there. The sea has darkened. 'Come back!' yells Steve. But fish do not come back.
Steve drags himself out. He is wet and sad. 'Cod dupes me all the time,' he pants. Then he sees a thing in the sand at his feet.
It is a pail! Steve picks it up and grins a big grin. 'Cod is quick, and Cod is hard to spot,' he tells the sea. 'But this time I will dupe him. I will use this pail.'
Steve sits in the sea with his pail. He is still and mute. He waits and waits. The cods swim up, one by one. They assume Steve is just an odd lump. 'This time I will win,' thinks Steve.
Scoop! Steve jumps up with the pail. Cod flips and flops inside it! 'I did it!' yells Steve. 'I got Cod with a pail!' Cod looks up at Steve. Steve grins. 'Cod, shall we call it a truce?'
