Girl's Blue Note Swirl Jolly Phonics · Step 2, Unit 11: er, ir, ur as in her, bird, turn
Practice Words
Girl sits by her window and plays her flute. The song is a sad, sad song. Sad drops drip down her cheeks, and she plays on.
The song swirls out into the sky. Blue notes twirl past the treetops in the wind. The leaves go still, just to hear that sad song.
Up high, the notes begin to cry. Green drops fall, one by one, down into the clouds. The clouds fill up until they burst. Then the rain falls too.
Down in the garden, the rain drips on Brown Rabbit and Black Rabbit. Brown Rabbit's fur gets wet. Bird tucks in by the flowers, small and still. A sad song drifts down with the rain.
'I hear a sad, sad song,' says Gold. 'That is why it rains. Bee, go and hunt for it!' Bee looks up at Gold. Then Bee turns and zooms up into the sky.
Bee meets Bird up in the sky. 'A pal is hurt and sad,' says Bee. 'That song is why it rains.' 'Then we must hunt for that pal,' chirps Bird.
Bird perches on a branch by Brown Rabbit. 'Brown Rabbit, help us hunt for that sad song,' chirps Bird. Brown Rabbit turns his long ears to the tune. Then he dashes off, quick as the wind.
Brown Rabbit runs until he sees Girl up at her window. 'Why is the song so sad?' he calls up. 'I miss my mom and dad,' sobs Girl. 'But when I play, I am not so sad.'
Brown Rabbit tells Bird. Bird tells Bee. Bee tells Gold. Girl comes down, and Black Rabbit jumps up into her arms. Brown Rabbit hops to her side. Bird lands by her neck. 'Girl, we are here!' they say. And Girl is not so lonely now.
Now Girl sits on the hillside in the sunlight. A rabbit rests on each side, and Bird perches on her arm. Bee twirls by Gold, and Girl grins. The sad song is at an end.
