Wide Sky, Bright Plains Jolly Phonics · Step 3, Unit 6: /ie/ mixed
Practice Words
The plains are wide, flat lands with green grass. The sky here is big and bright, and you can see far. Trees are few in the plains. A little chicken pecks in the sunlight by a birch tree.
Many peaceful mobs live in the plains. Cows, pigs, chickens, and sheep roam the grass in the daylight. If you start to play Minecraft, this is a fine place to find food.
Cows, pigs, and chickens fill the plains. They come in big numbers, and they peck and graze from daylight till dark. Make a home here, and a meal is never far off.
Horses come to the plains too. You can tame a horse and ride it under the wide sky, from daylight till twilight. The flat land is a fine spot to make a farm or a home.
Lakes dot the plains, and they are full of fish. Cast a line and try to catch one. No need to chase mobs around. On your first try, you might just reel in a fish!
Many mobs here just eat grass and roam at a slow pace in the bright sun. They will not fight you if you do not hurt them first. So the plains are a safe, peaceful place to roam.
Some plains grow tall yellow flowers that turn to face the sun all day. Other plains have red and yellow flowers under the high blue sky. You can pick them and keep them.
Outside Minecraft, too many mobs on one patch of land is bad. If too many cows graze one spot, they eat all the grass. The grass dies, the land dries up, and the dirt is left dry and dusty.
Big mobs like cows and horses have hard hoofs. When they stomp on the same ground a lot, they pack the soil tight and rip up the grass. Little chickens do much less harm to the land.
A wise farm hand knows how many mobs the land can feed. Too many, and the grass they need might die. Keep the herd in check, and the land thrives. Then the grass grows green and bright for all.
