Practice Words
Ben steps out from the dark den. The rocks are bumpy and dusty, but he grins a big grin. He wishes to meet a pal, and he feels very lucky.
Tim, Pam and Val crouch at a bushy spot and peek out. They can see a big, big lad. He gets bigger and bigger, and the kids feel jumpy.
Ben spots a bike at a house. He grins and lifts a hand to greet a pal, but the street is empty. He is a very perky lad.
Ben grips the bike, but his hand is too big. Crunch! The bike gets bent badly. Tim dashes back as fast as he can.
Wait! Don't run! Ben's shout is very loud. Tim grabs the bike and runs swiftly to the house. Ben stands sadly in the yard.
Ben looks at his big hands and sobs. Big wet drops drip from his cheeks. He feels gloomy and very sad.
Drip, drop! Big drops drum on the roof and on the yard. Tim and Pam peek out from the house. It is not stormy. The sun is out. That is not rain!
Tim sits with the bent bike and feels glum. He can see Ben all hunched up. Ben is not a scary monster. He is just a big sad lad, and Tim feels pity for him.
Ben sits and sobs, and his sobs rock the trees. Tim feels a bit jumpy, but he steps up to him briskly.
Tim greets Ben, and Ben lifts his big wet chin. He feels very sorry that the bike got bent. But Tim grins up at him. He can fix the bike!
Tim asks Ben to join the gang for a romp. Ben grins a vast, vast grin. He hops a soft jig, very softly. He can not crush his pal!
The gang romps all afternoon. Then Ben brings them to his den for a big party. The den has plenty to munch! Tim sits up on Ben and lifts a dish, and Pam and Val clap and sing. Ben feels grand. Not too big. Just grand.
