Check the Rock Jolly Phonics · Step 2, Unit 2: short vowels
Practice Words
Max sits under a big oak tree. He has a rock and a feather, and he can drop them both. But he stops. He thinks and thinks.
A rock is hard and solid. An elephant grips it in a big trunk, but it can not crush it. It is hot out, but a rock keeps cool and strong.
Max prods at an elephant, but it can not shift. It sits and blinks. Max pants and gasps. A big lump is a big lump!
A rock is a hard lump. A feather is soft, and it can drift and float. Max lifts them both up and thinks.
Max lifts a rock up and squints at it. Is it six kilograms? Is it ten? He can not check, and he needs a tool.
Max needs help, and Dad comes. Dad has a tool to check heft, and he grins. Max peeks out and is glad.
Dad lifts up a flask and grins. It has rain in it, up to the brim. It is a kilogram, spot on.
A herd stands on a pan. Dogs cram in on that pan. Thud! A herd sinks down. A big count can not win, but big bulk can.
Max thinks big, big, big. Can he check a vast orb, all land and rock? It can not fit on a pan, but maths can do it!
Jugs and jugs and jugs match a vast orb. It is a vast, vast number, and Max can not count it.
A flask sits on a pan, and feathers stack up on that pan. Up and up, a vast soft stack! Both pans match, spot on.
Drip, drop! Rain drips from a cloud. A drop is soft and thin, but drop plus drop plus drop is a lot. Bit by bit, it is a big, big sum.
Max hops on a pan and grins. He is ten plus ten plus ten kilograms, not as much as an elephant! He lifts a rock and a feather. Drop them both! Bam!
