Who Burst My Windmill? UFLI Foundations Lesson 81
Practice Words
Dr. Can Do lifts a plank. 'This is the first plank of my grand windmill!' he says. Jill stands by with her pick. 'What is a windmill for?' asks Jill. 'It is not for a thing,' he says. 'It is just fun to make!'
At sunset, Jill holds up a dish. 'Stop and rest, Dr. Can Do,' she calls. 'Come slurp from this dish.' 'Just one more plank!' he grunts. But then he stops. 'Fine. I can fix the blades in the morning.'
At bedtime, Dr. Can Do checks the yard. The golem plods past him in the murk. 'It is just the golem,' he says, and he steps back inside. But did something lurk in the dark?
In the morning, the blades are smashed! They are all over the dirt. 'Who wrecked my windmill?' blurts Dr. Can Do. Jill picks up a bit of torn fabric. 'What did this?' she asks.
Jill checks the land. The home is fine. The barn is fine. Just the windmill is hurt. 'This was not a storm,' says Jill. She is firm. 'A storm can not pick just one thing.'
They fix it plank by plank. By sunset, the windmill stands sturdy and tall once more. But Dr. Can Do is not glad. 'What wrecked my windmill?' he mutters. 'What if it comes back?'
In the dark, a big gust hits! Dr. Can Do yanks on his garment and runs to the porch. The wind swirls and swirls. The blades whirl fast, so fast! 'Stop!' he yells. 'Not my windmill!'
Then he spots a mage by the windmill. The wind stops. The blades stop. The mage smirks at Dr. Can Do. 'It is fun to make the blades twirl,' he says. So that is who wrecked the windmill. That smirking mage did it!
