Which Will Whump? UFLI Foundations Lesson 50
Practice Words
Tom sits on the grass with a rock and a feather. Which will drop fast when he lets go?
This rock is stiff and hot in the sun. Whack it, and it will not crack.
This big pal sits as still as a rock. Wham! Tom slams into it. He presses and presses. It will not slip an inch!
The rock has lots of mass. But a whiff of wind could whisk the feather up.
Tom lifts the rock up. What is its mass? Is it a lot, or just a bit? Which is it? Tom can not tell. He must test it.
Tom yells for help. Dad whizzes in with a big rig to test the mass.
Dad fills the flask with wet stuff. When it is full, its mass is a kilogram.
A mob of dogs packs a pan. Just ten sit on the next pan. Which pan will drop? Whomp! The ten win. A big mob can still have less mass!
Which rig can test the mass of all of this? No rig can! It is much too vast. But math can tell us.
It has the mass of jugs and jugs and jugs. Which kid could add all that up?
They stack feathers on a pan. The stack gets so tall! When it is that tall, it has the mass of the flask.
Whish, whish! Drops fall. A drop has just a bit of mass, but lots of drops add up to a lot.
Tom sits on the rig and grins. He will drop them both. The rock and the feather. Which will whump the grass? Go and test it!
