Anansi makes a pot all day. He thinks, 'This big chunk is all mine!' Then a knock rings.
It is Turtle, hot and sad. 'That pot smells sweet!' Anansi grins. 'Sit on the bank, Turtle! But first, go wash at the pond.'
The pond is far. Turtle's legs are small. He gets back in a funk. But now Anansi grabs the yams! 'Go wash again,' Anansi tells him.
Turtle gets back. The pots are blank! 'Too bad, pal,' Anansi tells him. 'Come back next time.' Turtle just nods. A guest thinks on when he is fed.
Then a note comes for Anansi. Turtle asks him to a big lunch! It is deep in the pond. Anansi runs to the bank.
Anansi jumps in. But he bobs on top like a nut! Turtle sinks to the lunch. Anansi can not sink.
Turtle pops up. 'What is it?' Anansi has a plan. He spots rocks on the bank, big fat rocks in the mud.
Anansi finds a big pot. He packs it full of rocks. Now he drops with a clunk! Turtle grins and gives him Fish and Turtle.
'We take the vest off to munch,' Turtle tells him. But the vest holds Anansi's arms stuck! He can not reach the fish. Turtle digs in as Anansi's grin goes blank.
Anansi yanks at the vest. He tips! Up, up he goes, up from the pond! He lands on the bank with a thunk. Rocks land in the mud.
Turtle pops up, full and glad. 'Too bad, pal. Come back next time.' Anansi sits wet on the bank, and his gut is blank. 'A guest thinks on when he is fed,' Turtle winks, and sinks.
Anansi goes home and makes a big pot. The next guest gets a big chunk, fed fast, with no trip to the pond! Anansi thinks back. A guest thinks on when he is fed, and so must a host.
