Ned has a home on a high hill. The sunlight is bright on the grass and the plants. 'I like it here,' says Ned with a grin.
Inside, The Book floats up high. 'Dig, Ned!' says The Book. 'Then we can make lots of things.' Ned blinks. 'Dig? Well, I might try!'
Ned is at the bench. Click, click, click! The bits snap into shape. Ned lifts his fresh shovel up high. 'A tool!' he yells. 'I am so smart!'
Ned steps out into the bright daylight. He spins the shovel in his hands. 'Try the beach,' says The Book. 'The sand there is soft.'
Ned digs in the sand. Scoop! He makes a hole at his feet. The sky is bright and Ned feels grand. 'This is the best day ever!' he yells.
Ned digs into the side of the hill. Soil shoots up high and rains back on him. He wipes his face and grins. 'Look at this mighty hole!'
Clang! The shovel hits a hard bit and stops. A stone glints with light deep in the pit. 'That is stone,' says The Book. 'A shovel can not cut stone.'
Ned stands deep in the pit and sighs. 'So a shovel can not crack stone,' he says. 'No,' says The Book. 'We must get a fresh tool. A sharp one!'
Back at the bench, The Book shows a pic. Ned looks at it in the light. He grips the wood tight. Snap! Click! Snap!
'It is a pickaxe,' says The Book. Ned holds the pickaxe up high with a grin. 'With this, I might crack that stone!' he says.
Ned swings the pickaxe hard. Crack! Cracks shoot out like lightning. Stone chunks drop at his feet. 'I am mighty!' yells Ned.
Ned sits in his big cave. Lamps shine bright on the rocky walls. The Book holds up a pic. It is a grand fort! 'Make that next, Ned!' says The Book. Ned jumps up high. 'Dig, Ned, dig!'
