The Flute Woke It UFLI Foundations Lesson 75
Practice Words
Bam sits in the shade with his flute. A soft little song drifts from it. His friend naps at his side. Zip wobbles as he flits by. 'My music can lull all the waves,' says Bam.
Bang! The shade shakes and rattles. Bits fall on Bam. 'What is this?' Bam yells. The kids huddle and tremble.
Splash! A vast tail rises from the waves. 'A sea beast!' Bam yells. He does not panic. He is glad! Little Zip flits in so close. The tail flicks, and Zip tumbles!
Vex the sea beast is up, and it is mad. It grumbles, and the land trembles. Vast waves crash on the homes. Froth is on all the sand. 'Did my flute wake it up?' says Bam. 'What a muddle!'
Bam trembles, but he grips his flute. 'My music woke Vex,' he says. 'It can lull Vex back to bed.' A soft, simple note drifts up, then the next, and the next. Vex is still. Vex just looks at Bam. Zip flits past, and Vex is still.
The waves settle. The froth dries on the sand. Vex rocks from side to side, like a child in a cradle. Zip sings one soft little note. Then Vex sinks back into the waves. Back to rest, back to bed.
What a mess on the sand! Planks are in a jumble, and fish flop where fish should not be. Bam grabs a big plank. 'We can fix this!' he calls. All the kids help. Zip flits up and sings. 'Bam,' says his friend with the pet, 'no flute by the waves!' Bam grins and chuckles. 'We shall see.'
