In the lower half of the image, The Girl is shown in a close-up view, beaming with a wide, joyful smile and rosy cheeks, looking directly at the viewer. Her voluminous hair fills much of the frame, with small colorful accessories (green and orange) scattered through it. The top portion of the image is a plain dark background, leaving space for text.

Each morning I say, 'Hello, hair. What is the plan today?' My hair never says a thing back. But it has a plan, that is true. Two clips, a good brush, and whoosh! I am set for the day.

Page 2
On the left side of the image, The Girl stands outdoors on a sunny summer day, smiling confidently and sipping a cool drink with a straw while her enormous, voluminous hair is swept up high off her neck, billowing dramatically upward and to the right, with colorful clips and decorations scattered through it. The Dog sits beside her on the left, wearing sunglasses and looking up at her. The background is a bright, warm outdoor scene with yellow-green foliage and a light blue sky with white clouds, and a large shadow is cast on the ground from The Girl's hair. The right side of the image is open sky and plain background.

In summer, my hair goes up. Way, way up. It blocks the hot sun like a big roof. I sip my cool drink from a tube in the shade. My dog pants in his dark specs. Phew, it is hot! 'Enjoy the shade,' I tell my dog.

On the right side of the image, The Girl is running joyfully to the right, mid-stride with one foot off the ground, her face turned toward the viewer at a three-quarter angle with a broad smile. Her long hair flows dramatically behind her like a massive wave, stretching across much of the image, filled with pink flowers and green leaves. The Dog is running along below and behind her hair on the left-center, small and energetic. The outdoor autumn scene features orange and red foliage on the trees, with fallen leaves scattered on the brown ground and drifting through the air.

When the leaves drift down, we run. My hair flies out like a wave full of leaves. It fills the path. My dog pursues me, leaping over each twig in his way. But no pup can beat my hair.

On the left side of the image, The Girl is walking through a snowy winter scene, smiling cozily as she wraps her voluminous hair around her face and shoulders like a scarf, holding it close with her hands. The Dog trots alongside her to the right, braving the cold. Small snowflakes fall around them against a wintry, pale blue-white outdoor backdrop. The right side of the image is open, plain background.

In winter, I do not need a scarf. I coil my hair on my neck and chin and step out in the new snow. Warm as toast! My dog huffs and puffs in the snow. 'I would lend it,' I tell my dog, 'but there is just hair for one.'

Page 5
In the lower-right portion of the image, The Girl is shown from roughly the eyes up, looking downward with a calm, slightly wistful expression, her short curly hair visible — reflecting the text about having cut it short. In the upper-left corner, The Dog peeks into the frame from above, tongue out playfully. The background is a soft, light outdoor setting with scattered green grass strokes and a pale blue sky, with the top half of the image left mostly as plain background space.

One day, I cut it all off. Short. My new short hair is less hard, yes. But less hard is not more fun. My dog blinks at me as if to ask, 'Where did it go?' Now I must wait, birthday to birthday, till it grows back.

Page 6
On the right side of the image, The Girl is lying on her back on a patch of grass in a park, her long hair spread out wide around her head. She has a relaxed, happy smile with her eyes gently closed, looking completely at ease. Small cute bugs walk along her outstretched arms. The Dog is curled up beside her on the grass, nestled close to her arm, looking content. Small green grass blades are scattered around them on the ground. The left side of the image is open white/plain background with just a few sparse grass marks.

In time, it grows back. I lie down flat in the dewy grass and let my hair fan out like a rug. I shut my lids. Little bugs creep up my arms to say hello. My dog curls up by my side. 'We are back,' I say.

Page 7
On the left side of the image, The Girl stands proudly with a big, beaming grin, her hands raised near her head as she shows off her hair styled into a large, dramatic square shape decorated with colorful pink and green hair clips or confetti-like accessories. She looks delighted and confident. Slightly to the right of center, The Dog sits in the grass looking up at The Girl with an amused expression, with a few colorful clips or confetti pieces floating around. The scene is set outdoors on a bright day with soft green grass and a pale blue sky.

On dress-up day, I do a new thing with my hair. A box shape. Yes, a box shape! Pink and green clips go all over it. My dog gazes up at me and blinks. He has never seen hair like this. 'It is art,' I tell my dog. He just sniffs.

Page 8
On the right side of the image, The Girl lies on her stomach on a grassy area, smiling contentedly as she draws on sheets of paper spread out in front of her. Her big, voluminous hair billows upward and to the left, stuffed with colorful pens and crayons in blue, pink, yellow, and other colors. The Dog peeks out from within The Girl's hair near the top, with just its head and paws visible, looking comfortable nestled among the curls. The left side of the image is open white and light blue background. The scene is outdoors on a bright day.

My hair is a tool kit too. When I make art, I tuck each pen and wax stick into my curls. Need the blue pen? Grab it from the left. Need pink? Check the back. Then my dog pokes out from my curls. He was in there all this time, and I did not have a clue!

Page 9
On the left side of the image, The Girl is shown from the shoulders up, looking upward with wide, delighted eyes and a big smile, her hands clasped together near her chin in excitement. Her enormous curly dark hair billows outward like a tree canopy, filling the upper-left portion of the image, with several colorful birds (teal, pink with yellow markings, green) nesting and perching throughout it. The Dog peeks out from the top of her hair, tongue out happily, nestled among the birds. The right side opens to a clear sky with soft green grass along the bottom, left open for text.

My mom says my hair looks like a bird nest. So I think, what if it was one? A bluebird could nest right on top. My dog could perch up there too, happy as can be. A bird home that can walk! Mom does not say no. She just steps away, step by step.

On the right side of the image, The Girl is walking confidently into the wind with a big, proud smile, her face turned toward the viewer at a three-quarter angle, her massive hair billowing dramatically behind and above her like a flag, filling much of the upper portion of the scene. The Dog stands upright beside her on the right, leaning into the wind alongside her. The outdoor scene is breezy and bright, with small colorful confetti-like shapes (pink and green) swirling in the air and patches of green grass at the bottom, conveying a windy, celebratory atmosphere. The left side is open sky/white background, clear of characters.

When the wind blows, my hair flies out like a big flag. All who pass stop and gaze. My dog and I lean into the gust, side by side, as if we rule the street. And guess what? We do.

Page 11
In the lower-left corner, The Girl is shown in a close-up view, smiling joyfully with wide eyes, her voluminous hair spread across the bottom of the image and decorated with colorful headbands, pins, and bows in pink, blue, yellow, red, and green. The Dog peeks in from the lower-right edge, partially hidden behind The Girl's hair, looking up eagerly as if wanting a bow too. The top half of the image is plain white/light blue background. The scene is bright and cheerful, set indoors.

At bedtime, my mom sits me down and brushes out each twist. She adds bands, pins, and bows in blue and green, and hums a sweet tune. My dog sneaks in and hides in my curls. Then he peeks out. He wants a bow too. Mom gives my dog a bow. She does this each night.

Page 12
On the right side of the image, The Girl is shown in a close-up portrait, beaming with a wide, joyful smile, her hands raised up near her chin in delight. Her voluminous hair fills much of the frame, decorated with small colorful flowers and leaves in green, yellow, and pink. The left side of the image is left open as a light clearing framed by her flowing hair, providing space for text.

Will I ever cut my hair short? No way! Long hair makes each day feel like my birthday. A rose or two tucks into my curls, as if it grew there. I think even the plants wish they had hair like this. And that is true.
