On the right side of the image, a large Cod rests on a sandy shoreline or shallow water's edge. Cod has a round, chubby body with a pale yellow underbelly transitioning into a green-and-teal patterned back with small rectangular spot markings, large round black eyes with white highlights, a small open pink mouth, and lime-green fins with subtle line detailing. The scene shows a coastal environment with evergreen trees and forested hills in the background under an overcast sky. The left side of the image is dominated by deep blue water, providing a clear plain area for text overlay.

Deep in the cold sea, there lived a cod. Not just any cod. This cod was the fastest, the cleverest, the hardest-to-catch fish along the coast. It darted past every net, every trap, and every rod. Every fisherman in town knew about this cod. And every single one of them had given up.

Page 2
On the left side of the image, Cod is positioned on the sandy ocean floor, facing toward the viewer at a three-quarter angle with a wary, alert expression, appearing to dart away toward a hiding spot near kelp. Cod has a round, chubby body with a pale yellow underbelly, green-and-teal patterned back with small rectangular spot markings, large round black eyes with white highlights, and lime-green fins. The underwater scene features green kelp and seaweed rising from the sandy bottom in the background, with deep blue open water stretching into the distance under a faintly lit sky visible above the waterline. The right side of the image is occupied by a blue-toned text overlay panel with a decorative pixelated border, leaving clear space for text.

The cod liked it that way. Any time someone came too close, it would flick its bright green fins and vanish into the kelp. Gone. Just like that. The cod had a knack for hiding. 'You will never catch me,' it seemed to say. And so far, it was right.

Page 3
On the right side of the image, a vast ocean stretches out to the horizon, empty and mysterious. The scene is set outdoors during daytime with an overcast sky, evergreen trees lining a snowy or sandy shoreline in the background. No fishing rod, net, or tools are visible anywhere in the scene, emphasizing the lack of equipment. The left side is dominated by a large dark blue overlay area for text.

The sea stretched out, wide and still. No boats. No nets. No rods. Not one fisherman in sight. The cod had won so many times that no one even tried any more. It was too fast. Too tricky. Too slippery. No one could do it. No one but Steve. And Steve knew it.

Page 4
Steve stands on the left side of the image on a sandy shore beside a large body of deep blue water, facing toward the viewer at a three-quarter angle with a thoughtful, slightly frustrated expression and his arms at his sides. He has a large square head, short brown hair parted to the side, light peach skin, large round dark-blue eyes, and a small mouth. He wears a teal/cyan short-sleeve t-shirt, blue pants, and dark brown shoes. He has no fishing rod or net, and the scene conveys his dilemma of wanting to catch fish without the right tools. The setting is outdoors on a bright, sunny day with a clear blue sky and scattered white clouds, with a low stone wall running behind him along the waterfront.

Steve stood on the shore and stared at the water. 'I am going to catch that cod,' he said. 'I know I will. I am going to catch it, cook it, and eat it for lunch.' He had no rod. He had no net. He had no boat, no line, no bait, and no plan. But Steve had something better. Steve had grit.

Page 5
On the right side of the image, Steve is diving headfirst downward into clear blue underwater waters, arms outstretched with a determined pose. He has a large square head, short brown hair, light peach skin, and wears a teal/cyan short-sleeve t-shirt, blue pants, and dark brown shoes. The underwater scene shows coral, rocky ledges, aquatic plants, and a hollow log resting on the ocean floor below. Cod is partially visible peeking out from inside the log with a startled expression, having darted inside after feeling Steve's splash. Cod has a round chubby body with a pale yellow underbelly, green-and-teal patterned back, and large round black eyes. The left ~40% of the image is a plain purple rectangle for text overlay with a pixelated border.

Steve jumped right in. No plan. No thinking. Just a big splash into the cold blue water, arms out, fingers reaching at nothing. The cod saw him coming from far away. It darted into a hollow log and watched Steve sink past with a trail of bubbles. It peeked out with wide eyes. 'This,' the cod knew, 'is going to be easy.'

Page 6
On the left side of the image, the scene shows a deep, dark underwater environment. Dark blue water stretches out into the murky distance. Tall kelp and underwater vegetation rise from the dark ocean floor. A hollow wooden log rests near the center-left on the seafloor, visibly empty — the cod is no longer inside. Steve swims in the mid-ground, facing toward the viewer with a puzzled, searching expression, peering around the dark water. He has a large square head, short brown hair, light peach skin, and wears a teal/cyan short-sleeve t-shirt, blue pants, and dark brown shoes. The right side of the image is dominated by a large olive/yellow-green pixelated overlay panel, leaving that area as a plain background for text.

Steve swam to the log and peered inside. Empty. 'Where did it go?' he said, but only bubbles came out. He looked left. He looked right. He looked up and down and all around. The cod had tricked him, and Steve knew it. The dark sea stretched out around him, cold and still. The cod was already gone.

Page 7
On the right side of the image, an underwater scene shows a dense field of tall green kelp stretching across the ocean floor, with murky, dim water and a dark overcast sky visible above the surface. Cod is partially hidden among the kelp on the right, peeking out with its round chubby body, pale yellow underbelly, green-and-teal patterned back, and large round black eyes visible between the fronds. Steve is visible near the center-right, cautiously peering into the kelp with a careful, focused expression. He has a large square head, short brown hair, light peach skin, and wears a teal/cyan short-sleeve t-shirt, blue pants, and dark brown shoes. The left side of the image is occupied by a dark blue text overlay area with a pixelated border.

Wait. There! A flash of green, tucked between the kelp. Steve kicked closer, very slowly, very softly. He reached out both hands. The cod did not even flinch. It just waited. And waited. At the very last second, it gave one quick wriggle and shot right past Steve's fingers.

Page 8
On the left side of the image, a sandy sandbar sits in dark, murky underwater waters, empty and still. The scene is dimly lit, set in deep water at night or in dark ocean depths. Small disturbed sand particles float near the sandbar, suggesting something was recently here but has left. Steve swims nearby on the right side, facing toward the viewer with a frustrated, searching expression, looking around the empty sandbar. He has a large square head, short brown hair, light peach skin, and wears a teal/cyan short-sleeve t-shirt, blue pants, and dark brown shoes. The right side of the image has open dark water suitable for text overlay.

Steve chased the cod all the way to a sandbar. Gone again. He checked behind a rock. Nothing. He looked under a clump of seaweed. Just one very confused crab staring back at him. 'Come back!' Steve gurgled. But fish do not know that word.

Page 9
On the right side of the image, Steve stands on a sandy shore, dripping wet, looking down with a curious, surprised expression at a small mysterious object sitting on the ground in front of him. He has a large square head, short brown hair, light peach skin, large round dark-blue eyes, and wears a teal/cyan short-sleeve t-shirt, blue pants, and dark brown shoes — all visibly damp from being in the sea. The scene is an outdoor coastal beach setting in bright daylight, with calm dark water visible in the background. The left side of the image contains a dark purple text overlay area with a pixelated border.

Steve pulled himself out of the sea, soaking wet, with no fish. His fingers were numb with cold. 'That fish,' he panted, 'is smarter than me.' He looked down at the wet sand. And there, just at his feet, was something the tide had washed in.

Page 10
On the left side of the image, Steve stands on a sandy beach at the water's edge, facing toward the viewer at a three-quarter angle with a determined, excited expression, holding a gray bucket out in front of him. He has a large square head, short brown hair, light peach skin, large round dark-blue eyes, and wears a teal/cyan short-sleeve t-shirt, blue pants, and dark brown shoes. The outdoor scene shows a bright daytime sky with scattered clouds, a calm ocean in the background with gentle waves lapping at the shore, and a tree line of evergreen trees along the distant shore. The right side of the image has open sky and ocean suitable for text overlay.

A bucket! Steve picked it up, and a grin spread all the way across his face. A big, slow, slightly sneaky grin. He thumbed the rim of the bucket. He knew what to do. 'Right, Cod,' he whispered. 'You are faster than me. You are sneakier than me. But I bet you will come and take a peek at me. I know it.'

Page 11
On the right side of the image, Steve sits submerged in the shallow ocean water up to his shoulders, holding a gray bucket just above the waterline, staying very still with a quiet, focused expression. He has a large square head, short brown hair, light peach skin, and the top of his teal/cyan short-sleeve t-shirt is visible above the water. Several Cod swim up close to him in the shallow water, approaching naively. Each Cod has a round, chubby body with a pale yellow underbelly, green-and-teal patterned back with small rectangular spot markings, large round black eyes with white highlights, and lime-green fins. The scene is set outdoors on a bright day with a blue sky and wispy clouds, with the open sea stretching to the horizon. The left side of the image is occupied by a large dark blue text overlay area.

Steve waded back into the sea, sat down in the shallows, and did not move at all. He did not splash. He did not chase. He just sat there with his bucket and waited. The cold water lapped at his wrists. One cod swam closer. Then two. Then three. They circled his legs, nudging and poking, trying to work out what this strange, still lump was. 'Gotcha,' Steve whispered.

Page 12
On the left side of the image, Steve stands on a sandy beach at the edge of the sea, jumping or stepping triumphantly out of the shallow water with an excited, proud expression. He has a large square head, short brown hair, light peach skin, large round dark-blue eyes, and wears a teal/cyan short-sleeve t-shirt, blue pants, and dark brown shoes — visibly wet. He holds a gray bucket in both hands, and inside the bucket Cod is visible — a round, chubby fish with a pale yellow underbelly, green-and-teal patterned back, large round black eyes, and lime-green fins, flopping in the bucket. The ocean stretches out behind him under a daytime sky with scattered clouds, and green terrain with trees is visible in the background. The right side of the image is open sky and background suitable for text overlay.

Scoop! Steve burst out of the water with his bucket held high and one very surprised cod wriggling inside. 'I did it!' he yelled. 'I caught a fish with a bucket!' The cod looked up at Steve. Steve looked down at the cod. The most well-known fish on the coast had finally met its match. 'So,' said Steve. 'Do you like chips?'
