On the right side of the image, The Girl stands on a sandy park path on a sunny day, leaning slightly forward with a curious, determined expression as if sniffing the air to track down a smell. A large pale purple circle and a warm yellow sun shape frame her in the background, with wispy clouds scattered across the sky. To the left, a scruffy green bush with wavy stink lines rising from it sits at ground level, with small eyes peeking out from within it — hinting at the source of the stinky smell.

Something stinky is hiding in the park, though The Girl can not see it. She sniffs the air. She sniffs again. She follows her nose down the sunny path like a detective on a big, smelly case. Behind a green bush, two little eyes blink back at her. 'I see you in there,' she says. 'And I can smell you, too.'

Page 2
On the left side of the image, The Girl stands on a dry, grassy patch of ground, looking toward Pig with a wide-eyed, amazed expression, her arms held slightly out from her sides. To her right (but still in the left-center area), Pig stands on all fours, completely covered in thick mud and dirt, with green stink lines rising from its body and a grumpy, wide-eyed expression peeking out from beneath the muck. The scene is outdoors on a sunny day with a large yellow sun in the upper-left corner, a pale blue sky with a few white clouds, and some scraggly bushes nearby.

Out crashes the most stinky animal in the world! Thick, dark mud coats it from head to toe. Green stink lines rise off it like steam. 'It's a Pig!' The Girl shouts. 'A real Pig! At the park!' Pig stares at The Girl with big, grumpy eyes. Although Pig does not look amazed, The Girl is amazed for both of them.

Page 3
On the right side of the image, The Girl is running joyfully down a sandy hill with her arms spread wide, smiling broadly. In the center-right, Pig chases after her down the slope, with a goofy grin and stink lines rising from its shaggy body. Small green flies buzz around them both. The scene is set outdoors on a sunny day with a bright yellow sun and white clouds in a blue sky, with green bushes at the base of the hill.

The Girl runs down the hill with her arms spread wide. 'Come on, Pig!' Pig comes on. It gallops after her with its mouth open and a goofy grin that takes up most of its face. Flies buzz around them both. 'You are the best thing I ever found!' The Girl yells into the wind. 'Better than a doughnut! Better than a snow day! Better than finding money in my pocket!'

Page 4
On the left side of the image, The Girl is mid-stride, leaning forward with one arm outstretched and a delighted, open-mouthed smile, wearing a new dress and boots that are getting splattered with muddy water. Pig is mostly obscured by an enormous splash of muddy brown water erupting from the puddle in the center-left of the scene — it has clearly just jumped in with great enthusiasm. The outdoor setting features a bright sun, green bushes, and a dirt path. Muddy water sprays everywhere like a cloudburst.

The Girl finds a big puddle and points right at it. 'Pigs love mud. Go on!' Pig jumps in with all four feet. Muddy water bursts up all around. It soaks The Girl's new dress. It soaks her boots. It soaks a butterfly flying past. 'I thought so,' says The Girl, wiping mud off her face. 'You are very good at being a pig.'

Page 5
On the right side of the image, a large tree dominates the scene with The Girl sitting on a high branch, visible with a dreamy, content expression as she gazes out at the hillside stretching below her like artwork, wearing her mud-splattered dress. Pig sits at the base of the tree on the ground, looking up with a grumpy, unamused expression, waiting reluctantly. Green leaves drift down from the branches above. The scene is outdoors on a sunny day with a bright yellow sun in the upper left, sandy ground, and green bushes scattered around.

The Girl climbs a big tree and sits on a high branch, gazing out at the hills. 'Come up, Pig! You can see all the hills from up top!' Pig sits at the bottom of the tree. It does not climb. It does not even try. It just looks up at The Girl with a big, grumpy scowl. 'Fine,' says The Girl. 'Pigs are not tree animals, though.'

Page 6
On the left side of the image, The Girl is sitting on the ground with her eyes closed and mouth wide open, singing joyfully with one hand raised in the air, wearing her mud-splattered dress and now barefoot. Beside her, Pig stands with The Girl's boots on its four feet, mouth open making a funny foghorn-like sound, with stink lines and musical notes floating above both of them. Butterflies and leaves swirl around them in the air. The scene is set outdoors on a sunny day in a flat, grassy area with a bright yellow sun in the sky, and wispy clouds. The right side of the image is open background with minimal detail.

Back on the ground, The Girl pulls off her boots and puts them on Pig's feet. All four of them. Pig opens its mouth and makes a sound. Not an oink. More like a loud honk falling down the stairs. 'That is great, Pig!' The Girl closes her eyes, throws one hand in the air, and sings along as loud as she can. Butterflies scatter. Birds go quiet. It is a very silly duet, though The Girl loves every minute of it.

Page 7
On the right side of the image, The Girl stands near the front door of a suburban house with a brick facade, peering cautiously toward the door with a sneaky, determined expression, one hand reaching toward the doorway as she checks if the coast is clear, wearing her mud-splattered dress and barefoot. Pig stands just behind and to the left of her, still wearing boots on its feet, covered in mud and surrounded by green stink lines and buzzing flies, looking grubby and mischievous. A large orange setting sun dominates the background, with pink sky and white clouds, conveying late afternoon light. Through the partially open front door, the interior of the house is visible.

The sun turns orange and sinks. It feels too early to go, but Mom will call The Girl in soon. The Girl looks at Pig. Pig looks at The Girl. Flies buzz around Pig's head like a stinky ring. 'You are coming home with me,' says The Girl. 'But we ought to be sneaky. Mom is not going to like the smell.' The Girl creeps up the driveway, pushes open the door, and peeks inside. All clear.

Page 8
On the left side of the image, The Girl is tiptoeing carefully with a nervous, worried expression, her arms slightly outstretched for balance as she creeps along, wearing her mud-splattered dress and barefoot. Pig walks beside her on all fours wearing boots, looking wide-eyed and anxious, covered in mud and leaves with flies buzzing around both of them. Muddy footprints and boot prints trail behind them against a white background, suggesting they are sneaking through an indoor hallway while leaving a messy trail. The right side of the image is open white space.

They tiptoe down the hall. The Girl holds her breath. Pig holds its breath. Even the flies hold their breath. Behind them, muddy marks and boot marks spread across the floor like a map. It is not sneaky at all. 'Not. A. Sound,' whispers The Girl. Pig makes a sound, though. A small, soft one. The Girl pretends not to hear it.

Page 9
On the right side of the image, The Girl stands in front of a vanity/dressing table, grinning widely with hair curlers in her dark reddish-brown hair, holding up a tube of red lipstick in one raised hand. She wears a blue chunky bead necklace and a long pink robe splotched with mud patches over a light blue dress, with bare feet. Pig stands on the floor to her left (center of the image), facing forward with a comically exaggerated grin — it has red lipstick smeared all around its mouth, wavy stink lines rising from its shaggy fur, still wearing purple boots on its feet, with muddy footprints and scattered green leaves on the cream floor around it. The scene is set indoors in a bedroom, with a mirror and perfume bottles visible on the white dressing table behind The Girl. In the mirror, The Girl's grinning face is reflected back, with red lipstick smeared on her cheeks and her curler-filled hair.

The Girl brings Pig straight to Mom's room and stands at the dressing table. If Pig is going to stay, Pig ought to look the part. The Girl sticks foam rolls in her hair and smears blue eyeshadow on her cheeks. Then she grabs the red lipstick. 'Hold still, Pig.' Pig does not hold still. But The Girl gets lipstick on Pig all the same. Mostly around the mouth. Partly on the floor. Pig grins at itself in the mirror. It looks very proud.

Page 10
On the left side of the image, Mom stands tall in the doorway, pointing down angrily at Pig with an outstretched finger, her expression stern and authoritative. She has light peach skin, shoulder-length curly black hair, small black dot eyes, and wears a plain pink A-line dress with thin black-line arms and mitten-like hands. Pig stands in the center-left area, looking guilty and nervous with wide eyes and a grimacing expression, covered in dirt and grime with flies buzzing around and stink lines rising from its body, red lipstick still smeared around its mouth, wearing boots on its feet, leaving muddy puddles on the floor. The Girl peeks into the scene from behind Mom or from the edge of the frame, looking worried, with hair curlers and blue eyeshadow still on, wearing her mud-splattered dress. The scene is set indoors on a bright yellow floor.

'What,' says Mom from the doorway, 'is that?' Mom points at Pig. Pig drips mud on the carpet. A fly lands on the lipstick. 'It's my pig,' says The Girl with a big, charming smile. 'I found it at the park. Can I keep it? Please? I will look after it forever and ever and...' 'March that thing to the tub,' says Mom. 'Now.' The Girl thinks that is almost a yes, though.

Page 11
On the right side of the image, The Girl and Pig are sitting together in a blue-gray bathtub filled with bubbly, soapy water, set against a faintly tiled bathroom wall, while the left half of the image is empty cream-colored background. The Girl is smiling happily with her eyes closed, her shoulder-length dark brown hair topped with a pile of white foam and a few hair curlers still nestled in it, the collar of her pink top just visible above the bubbles, clearly enjoying bath time. Pig, with light brown skin, is peeking out from under a mound of white bubbles next to her on the right, with wide eyes and a slightly nervous expression, one trotter resting on the tub's rim as foam and water drip over the edge, and a few wavy green stink lines rise above his sudsy head. Soap bubbles float through the air around them, and a small puddle of water has formed on the green-tinged floor below the tub.

'So I can keep it?' The Girl asks as she runs. 'You can keep it clean,' says Mom with a frown. 'No more muck in my house.' They fill the tub with soapy water. Pig climbs in. The Girl climbs in after. Bubbles float up to the top as they scrub and splash and scrub again. Layer by layer, the mud comes off. And a strange thought creeps into The Girl's mind.

Page 12
On the left side of the image, The Girl and the Pug are sitting together in a white bathtub filled with sudsy water and bubbles. The Girl is smiling warmly and scrubbing the Pug's head with a pink hairbrush, while the Pug — now revealed from under all the mud — sits in the foam looking content with a slight grin, showing its small wrinkly face. Bubbles float up into the air above them. The scene is set indoors in a bathroom with light green tiled walls, and water is splashing over the edge of the tub onto the green floor, forming a small puddle.

Under all that mud is not a pig. It is a pug! A little pug, with a wrinkly face and a big grin. The Girl stares at it. It stares at The Girl. Its tiny curly tail wags in the bubbles. 'Well,' says The Girl, scrubbing its soft head with a pink brush. 'You are still the most stinky thing I ever found at the park, though.' The pug licks her nose. The Girl thinks that is a thank you. She is keeping it forever.
