Steve stands by the big trunk. The sun sets in the gold sky. 'I am the tag champ,' Steve yells. 'Alex can try to hide, but I will find Alex!'
Alex runs fast. She zips by the plants and the tall crops. 'I am sly,' she says with a grin. 'I will find a top spot to hide. Steve can not catch me!'
Steve stomps in the tall grass. He checks by the trunk. He checks by the home. 'Where is Alex?' he asks. 'I spy grass and plants, but no Alex yet.'
Snap! A twig cracks. Steve stands stiff. 'What is that in the grass by my legs?' A small white dog looks up at him and wags.
'A dog,' Steve says with a sad face. 'This is not Alex. Why is this hunt so hard?' The dog wags and trots off to sniff the grass.
Then Steve spots a hint of green in the grass. 'I spy Alex!' he says. He is sly. He creeps up, step by step, close to the tall grass.
It is a cat! The cat slinks off in the grass. 'No, no, no!' Steve yells. Pink clouds glide in the still sky. Still no Alex.
Then Steve finds a big pit. A white hen stands at the edge. 'Is Alex in the pit?' Steve asks. The hen just blinks at him. Why is a hen at the pit?
The hen is stuck on a ledge in the pit! Steve is kind. He stacks blocks to make a ramp. 'A hen can not fly,' he says, 'but it can walk up my ramp.'
Steve flops in the red and white tulips. He looks up at the pink sky. 'Why can I not find Alex?' he says. 'I try and try. Alex wins this game.'
Then Steve spots a leg by the trunk. He gasps. It is Alex! 'I spy Alex!' he says. 'She hid by me all this while!'
Steve creeps up on silent legs. Tap! 'Tag!' he yells. Alex spins and grins. 'My turn!' she says. 'Run and hide, Steve!' 'Fine,' Steve says, 'but do not slip in that pit!'
