Practice Words
This is Ned. And this is The Book. A bee zips by today. 'Hooray!' says Ned. 'A bee!'
Ned runs after the bee. It zips past the plants. 'Stay, bee, stay!' calls Ned. 'Wait for me!'
The bee has a nest up in a tall tree. It smells so sweet. 'Honey!' says Ned. 'I will get some today!' A big bear waits by the tree.
Ned grabs his tool and grins. 'The honey will be mine!' he yells. The bear looks on in dismay.
'Stop, Ned!' yells The Book. 'Do not chop the nest! The bees will wake up and sting! That is not the way.'
Back home, The Book has a plan. Ned sets a small flame on the grass. 'Smoke makes bees sleepy,' says The Book. 'That is the way. No tool, Ned.'
Ned sets the flame under the nest. Smoke goes up and up. The bees get sleepy. 'Yay,' says Ned. 'This is the way.'
Snip, snip! Ned grabs the gold honey. 'Do not delay!' calls The Book. 'Run, Ned, run!'
Back home, Ned gets to work at his bench. He makes a hive with wood and wax. 'I will keep my bees here,' he says. 'They can stay with me all day.'
Ned sets the hive by his home and adds a lot of plants. 'Bees enjoy a good yard,' says The Book. 'They will come and stay.'
Ned holds up a rose. 'Come with me,' he says. The bees hum with joy. They go with Ned all the way home.
The hive makes honey. Hooray! But the bees will not go away. They buzz at Ned all day. 'Off! Off!' yells Ned. The Book looks on. 'Ned, Ned,' it says. 'What a day!'
