Practice Words
It is a sunny day. Skel is hard at it in the yard. He digs and chops in the grass with his tool. 'Rest? Not me!' Skel yells. 'I must finish this list!'
The sun drops. The sky gets dark. Skel looks at the bench. He can sit. He can rest. 'Not me,' Skel huffs. 'Rest is dull.'
'Skel, stop!' Jack tells him. 'Get in bed and sleep!' Zom nods. But Skel just scoffs. 'This is a big fuss,' he huffs. 'Sleep is for the dull.'
Skel grabs his bow. 'Off we go, Bones!' he yells. 'We shall hunt for loot!' Bones trots at his heel, as happy as can be.
Skel and Bones hunt up on the hills. Skel grips his bow and scans the dark. 'Not a stop for a snack,' Skel tells Bones. 'We must press on and on.'
Skel has a big loot stash. But his legs sag, and his arms are stiff. Bones flops on the grass, all spent. 'I am not sleepy,' Skel huffs. 'Not a bit.'
Then Skel looks up. Two green dots glint in the dark. It is a phantom! It hisses at Skel. A chill runs up his back. Phantoms hunt the ones that will not sleep.
'Run!' Skel yells. Skel and Bones sprint for the den. Phantoms drop from the clouds and dash at them. 'Hurry, Bones!' Skel pants. 'Hurry!'
Smash! Zom swings and hits a phantom. Bash! Jack hacks at the rest. 'Get in, Skel!' Jack yells. 'Quick!' Skel zips into the den.
Skel drops his bow. He tucks the loot in the chest. He flops onto his bed at last. 'Rest is bliss,' Skel mutters with a happy grin. Then he is fast asleep.
