Sad Tune (VC/CV syllable division)
Practice Words
Two-syllable words divided between two consonants in a VC/CV pattern.
A girl sits in her window and plays her flute. The tune is so slow and sad. Tears drip down her cheeks.
The breeze carries the tune away. It floats with the leaves and swirls on the wind.
Each note carries a tear. They drop into the clouds, wet drops of sorrow. They become the rain.
The rabbits feel the rain, and they can hear the sad notes of the song. The rain falls all over the field and on to the plants and the critters that live there.
The sun flower turns to the bee. 'Such a sad tune. I wonder who could be playing this song?' The bee is not sure. She flies off to ask the birds.
'Can you hear the sad, sad song?' the bee asks the bird. 'Did you see each note was a tear?' 'Who could be full of such sadness?' the bird wonders.
He asks the rabbit to find out. 'You see so well and run so swiftly, will you help us find the one who plays a song of such sorrow?' The rabbit nods and bounds away.
He sees the girl crying in the window, and calls out to her. 'Why do you play such a slow, sad song?' he calls. I miss my mother and father,' she says with a sob.
The rabbit tells the bird, and the bird tells the bee, and the bee tells the flower why the girl is so sad. She comes down from her window to see what the noise is. The critters of the field jump on her and shower her with kisses. 'Don't be sad, we are here,' they say.
And the girl is not so lonely now. She has the rabbits to chase, and bird to listen to. She watches the bee as it buzzes around the flower to collect pollen. The next time she plays her flute, it will be a happy tune.
