No Rest for Skel UFLI Foundations Lesson 72
Practice Words
Skel has a big list of jobs. He chops and digs. He plants and tends the crop. 'No rest for me,' says Skel. 'I have the most jobs of all!'
The sun sets. Skel looks at his old bench. He could sit on it and unwind. 'No,' says Skel. 'I am bold. Rest is not for me.'
'Go and sleep, Skel!' says Jack. Jack scolds and scolds. Zom nods. 'No,' says Skel. 'My mind is set. I will not rest.'
'I want to hunt,' says Skel. 'I will go and find gold!' Skel bolts off. Bones trots along behind him.
Skel hunts in the cold hills with Bones. His gut gives a grunt. 'We can't stop,' says Skel. 'We must find that gold.'
Skel finds gold! A big pile of gold sits on the grass. But Skel sags. Bones flops flat on the grass. 'I am fine,' says Skel. 'I can almost stand up.'
Then Skel looks up. A wild phantom hangs in the dim mist. Two lit spots glint at him. Phantoms hunt kids who will not sleep. Skel gets a cold chill.
'Run!' yells Skel. He and Bones bolt for home. The phantoms flap and dash behind them. Almost home. Almost there. Run, Skel, run!
Bash! Zom swings his blade at a phantom. Jack is bold and holds his blade up. 'Go inside, Skel!' yells Jack. And Skel does as he is told.
Skel is home and safe. He drops his gold in the chest. He flops into his snug bed. 'It is kind of fun to unwind,' says Skel. And at last, Skel can sleep.
