Practice Words
Nib sits on the rug and spins her red wool. Spin, spin, spin. A lad leans in. 'We go up the hill, Nib. Lock up tight!' 'I am fine,' says Nib. But she did not lock up.
The day is bright. Off go the lads, up the path. But a sly thing hides by the hut. It is Grim! Grim spies on the hut.
Grim creeps up and peeks in. He can spy Nib inside with her red wool. Grim licks his lips and grins a sly grin.
Smash! Grim sticks his big face in at the pane. Nib gets a big fright. 'Help!' she yells.
A big shaggy arm grabs Nib and lifts her up high. Nib yelps. But she hugs her red wool tight. She has a plan.
Grim sticks Nib up high in a tree. But Nib is sly. She ties her wool to a branch and lets it drop, a thin red line all the way back home.
The lads spot a thin red line on the path. 'That is Nib's wool!' says a lad. 'It might lead us to Nib. Come on!'
The red wool trails up to a high, dark cave. 'Nib might be in there,' says a lad. In they creep.
In the gloom they spy Grim. He sleeps and snores. A big gold key is on his belt. A lad creeps up and takes the key. Hush! Not a peep.
In the dim light, the lad slips the key in the lock. Click! Out come the kids. They are free!
Snap! Grim wakes up. 'My food!' he yells. The kids get a big fright. 'Run!' yells a lad.
Grim runs out into the daylight. But his legs snag on the red wool. It loops round him, good and tight. Down he goes! Boom! The kids race off, free at last.
Nib grins a bright grin. 'Nib, that wool trick set us all free!' says a lad. 'But next time, lock up tight!' Nib just smiles a sly smile.
