My name is Amy, and I have lots of different feelings. Every day, I experience a wide range of emotions. Feelings are not right or wrong. They tell us about our needs and concerns.
When I am happy, I giggle a lot. My heart feels light and free. It feels like flying in the bright, blue sky.
When I am sad, I cry. My heart feels heavy. It feels like rain falling on a wretched, cloudy day.
When I am angry, my face turns red. I feel hot and I want to scream. Anybody near me might face my wrath. I feel like a volcano ready to erupt.
When I am scared, my heart beats fast. My hands and feet get cold. It feels like being alone in a dark forest.
When I'm excited, I can't stay still. I want to skip and jump all over. It feels like running in a vast meadow with a wreath of flowers on my head.
When I'm nervous, my stomach feels weird. I can't think clearly. I feel like a wreck, like I just made a mistake in front of a whole audience.
When I am calm, I feel peaceful. My mind feels steady and clear. It feels like sitting on the bank of a glassy lake.
My eyes start to shut and my head lolls about. It feels like when the sun is going down and birds, like the little wrens, go back to their nests for the night. When I'm tired, my body feels heavy.
Sometimes I get wrapped up in feelings. Feelings come and go, and it's okay to feel them all. They are a part of me and make me who I am.
I talk about my feelings with my friends and family. They listen and tell me that they understand. Sometimes they give me advice. I like it when I can help a friend who is wrestling with their feelings.
Understanding my feelings helps me understand myself. The more that I get to know my feelings, the easier it is to build a good relationship with myself and others.
