Grandma sees the mouse in the house first and jumps up onto the couch. 'There's a mouse in the house! I'm afraid of mice!' she yells. 'They scamper under your feet.'
Then mum and dad caught sight of it. Mum drops the dishes with a clatter, and Dad hides behind a curtain. 'I don't like mice,' he says. 'It might touch me with it's tickly whiskers.'
The cat saw the mouse but is too lazy to chase it. 'There is a mouse in the house!' the boy yells at the cat. But the cat has never caught a mouse, and it is scared too. It hides under the bed.
Mum lifts the rug with caution, trying to catch sight of the little terror.
And Grandma tries to bat at it with a rolled up newspaper. But her eyes are very bad, and she nearly gets a spider instead.
'Just look at us,' says mum with a laugh. 'We are hiding under the bed from a tiny little critter.'
Then the mouse does something unexpected. It hops up on the cot where the Baby sits and gives her a cheeky look. The baby giggles at the mouse in the house.
'Play!' squeals the delighted baby and reaches out for the mouse.
The mouse flits around the house, darting here and there to play chasings with the baby.
Maybe it's not so scary to have a mouse in the house.
