Monkey Catches a Culprit UFLI Foundations Lesson 77
Practice Words
This is Monkey. Monkey has a hut far up in a large plant. Monkey likes bananas. He likes them a lot, a lot, a lot!
Monkey wakes up. He wants a banana snack. But the bananas are not there! He looks hard. He checks his hut. No bananas. Not one. 'Who took my bananas?' says Monkey.
Monkey spots a little bug by the blossoms. 'Did a bug take my bananas?' he asks. The bug giggles. 'No! A banana is so large, and a bug is so little!'
Then Monkey spots Snake up in the plant. 'Did a snake munch my bananas?' he asks. Snake grins. 'I munch rats, not bananas,' says Snake. 'I have no arms!'
Monkey hangs from a vine. His tummy grumbles. 'Who took my bananas?' he yells. 'It is so hard to find them!'
Monkey stomps back to his deck. He is mad. His hands are in fists. 'When I find who did it, they are in for it!' he snarls. His tummy grumbles and grumbles.
Then Monkey spots it. A path of bananas! It starts at the base of his plant. 'Ah-ha!' he gasps. 'I can track that path!'
At the end of the path sits Rabbit. Rabbit has a large bunch of bananas! 'Rabbit took my bananas!' Monkey yells. 'Rabbit, those are my bananas!' Rabbit just blinks.
Rabbit is not upset. 'These are my bananas,' says Rabbit. 'I grow them in my garden, in my backyard.' Monkey can not think of a thing to say.
Then Rabbit grins. He hangs a big bunch of bananas on the vine. 'It was a big harvest,' says Rabbit. 'Take this bunch!' Monkey blinks. His face gets hot, but he is glad.
Monkey stands on the steps with the bananas. 'Thanks, Rabbit. But who took my bananas?' Rabbit smiles. 'Think back to the dark,' says Rabbit. 'Think hard.'
Then Monkey spots the banana skins on his deck. Skin after skin after skin! 'It was me!' he yells. 'I got up in the dark and ate them all!' Monkey giggles and giggles. Rabbit chuckles in the yard.
