Lock the Gate, Nib! UFLI Foundations Lesson 54
Practice Words
Nib sits and spins. She has made a big ball of red wool. A lad calls in at the wall gap, 'Lock up, Nib!'
The lads take the path up the hill. A big thing sits in the shade and looks at the hut.
A big shape creeps up to the hut. The Troll looks in at the wall gap. He can see Nib!
The Troll jams his face in the wall gap. Smash! What a big mistake! Nib yells and yells.
A big hand grabs Nib. Up, up, up! The Troll takes Nib from the hut, but the red wool is safe in Nib's grip.
The Troll sets Nib up in a tall tree. Nib is brave. She lets the red wool drop down to the path.
The lads stop on the path. 'Look! Red wool!' yells a lad. 'It can take us to Nib!'
The lads track the red wool up the rocks. It runs up to a big, dim cave.
The Troll naps in the cave. A lad grins and takes the key from the Troll's belt. Hush, hush!
The lad sets the key in the lock of the gate. Click! The kids press up to see. They can get free!
The Troll wakes up and yells, 'Stop!' The kids run past the gate. They run and run.
The Troll runs, but the red wool grips his legs. Trip! Bam! The Troll can't chase them.
Nib grins a big grin. 'We are all safe!' says a lad. 'What a brave trick, Nib! But lock up!'
