Jim Wants the Best! UFLI Foundations Lesson 68
Practice Words
Jim and Zip race on the path. Len waves and yells, 'Jim, be quick! I have the best item!'
Len grins and lifts up a red boat. 'My dad got me this boat!' Jim gasps. He craves an item like that.
'I have the best items at home!' Jim brags. 'The best of all!' Len squints. His pal can tell the brag is bogus.
At home, Jim scans his box. A frog. A red ball. A game with broken bits. 'This is bad,' says Jim.
Then Jim has a plan! 'Gran and Dad have the best items. We can grab them!' Zip is glad. 'Zip, we begin the hunt!'
Jim grabs Pa's big plant and runs. The plant is vibrant and tall. Zip trots by his side, glad to help.
Next, Jim grabs Gran's dish of twine. What a fine item! Gran can mend and fix with it. Zip pats at a bit of twine. 'No, Zip!' says Jim.
Then Jim spots Dad's game box. Dad and Pa like this game a lot. Jim grins. 'This game is a big event at home!'
Jim grabs a stack of his sis's books. The top one has a fox on it. 'I have chosen the best books!' Zip has a box stuck on him. Jim can not see him.
Last stop: Mom's things. Jim has a big hat, lipstick, and red pumps. He looks in the glass and grins. Zip sits in a soft cloth. He looks so regal!
At sunup, Len and his pal check the items. Len packs the hat back in the trunk. His pal packs the plant. 'Jim, the items belong to Mom, Pa, and Gran,' says Len. Jim blushes. He regrets the brag.
'Where is my flask?' yells Mom. Jim, Len, and his pal stand still and silent. One item is lost!
They hunt and hunt. Len checks the boxes. His pal checks the bed. 'I can not spot it!' Jim yells. But Zip can detect a smell. Sniff, sniff!
Zip sniffs, and there it is! The flask! Jim hugs Zip and pats him. Len and his pal clap. Jim grins. 'Zip is the best of all!' What a moment!
