In Mom's Pouch

I am a tree kangaroo from Papua. My mother and I live in the beautiful unspoiled rainforest.

I look out at the world from the safety of Mom's pouch. I see the echidna family who forage in the undergrowth.

When I go exploring, I find a bird of paradise feather in a wonderful blue.

Mom let's me keep it tucked up safe in her pouch.

Tree Kangaroos can climb very high. I find a delicious berry!

I will keep it for later, safe in Mom's pouch.

Then the beautiful kapok flowers fall in a pretty curtain.

And I keep some safe in Mom's pouch.

It has been a busy morning and now I want a nap.

But Mom won't let me get in.

I am so confused. I run away.

Then I see another tree kangaroo family. There is a new baby in the mother's pouch and the older brother can no longer fit in.

I think about this for a while. Could it be that Mom has a new baby?

I go back home and I ask her. 'Mom, do you have a new baby in your pouch?'

There she is, so precious and surrounded by all the gifts I gave her.

I am a big brother! I need to let the new baby stay safe in Mom's pouch.
