On the left side of the image, a young child stands on the ground looking up at a tall wooden house raised high on stilts with a ladder leading up to its entrance. The child carries a basket filled with fruit on their back. The scene is set outdoors during the daytime, with a green tree beside the stilted house, rolling green fields, and misty mountains in the background. The right side of the image is open sky and landscape, left clear for text.

Joy had one job: drop off mangoes at the house at the end of the road. Simple. Easy. But then Joy looked up. Way, way up. A house on stilts, taller than a tree, with a ladder going right up into the air. 'I want that house!' Joy whispered. No dogs. No mud. Barely a care in the air up there. Up there, Joy would be queen of the world.

On the right side of the image, a woman stands smiling behind the counter of a small roadside shop attached to her home, interacting with a customer who leans in closely to see her goods. A child sits on the shop's front porch near plates of freshly cooked food on a low table, while another child stands nearby eyeing the food. An older man sits on the ground to the far right beside a pile of green produce. The shop has various items displayed on tables out front and goods hanging from the awning, set outdoors on a clear day with trees faintly visible in the background. The left side of the image is open sky and bare ground, left clear for text.

But the mangoes were not going to carry themselves. Joy kept walking. That was when the smell hit. Hot, sizzling, crispy food. Right there on a table outside a shop that was a home, too. A woman grinned from behind the counter. 'Hungry?' A man leaned so close his nose was right at the food. Kids sat close by, eyeing plates piled high. An old man rested beside a pile of greens. 'Wait. You live at the shop and eat at the shop?' Joy stared. The stilt house was already forgotten. 'I want that house!'

On the left side of the image, a large raised communal home with a wraparound porch and front staircase sits on an open lot with rolling green hills in the background. Beneath and around the elevated house, several children are racing and playing together with happy, lively expressions and cheerful laughter, while two adults stand nearby — one sitting on a bench and another standing, watching over the kids closely. A small pet curls up sleeping calmly on the ground in the lower center, and a green bush with a planter sits beside the front steps. The right ~40% of the image is open sky and plain background.

Joy turned the corner and stopped. Five kids. Maybe six. Racing and laughing under a big raised house like it was the best day of their lives. One adult sat on a bench, watching with care. Another stood with arms crossed, watching even closer. Even a little pet was curled up sleeping right in all that noise. 'That's the most kids I've ever seen!' Joy breathed. 'I want that house!' A house full of kids meant games. And games meant never, ever being bored.

On the right side of the image, a woman stands proudly smiling behind a wooden fruit stand loaded with bananas, watermelons, pineapples, and other fresh produce stacked brightly in the sun, set up outside a storefront with a red awning and blue-shuttered windows. A man stands facing her across the stand, reaching for some fruit. In the lower right corner, a young boy on a bicycle looks up toward the stand, one hand raised in a wave as he rides by. The left side of the image is open background, left clear for text.

The basket was getting heavy. Joy barely cared, because there in the sunshine sat the finest sight in the world. Fruit. Mountains of fruit. Bananas, watermelons, pineapples, all stacked up bright and golden in the sun. A woman stood behind her stand, proud as a queen. A man reached for a bunch of bananas. A boy on a bike waved as he rode past. 'You have all the fruit?' Joy stood there staring, clutching the little basket tighter. 'All of it? I want that house!'

On the left side of the image, a tall apartment building is shown at an angle, with multiple floors of stacked units visible. In an upper-floor apartment, seen through a large window, a woman sits at a sewing machine while a child stands closely beside her, both looking engaged. Clothes hang on a rack behind them, and a fashion poster brightens the wall inside the room. Potted plants sit on a lower ledge near the ground floor. The right ~40% of the image is plain white/light background, left clear for text.

The road led into the city, where houses were stacked on top of each other. Joy tilted her head. In one window, high upstairs, a woman sat at a stitching tool while a child stood beside her, watching every stitch. Clothes hung on a rack. A poster brightened the wall. Every single corner of that small room had a job to do. 'You can make clothes? Like, whatever you want?' Joy pressed her face against the building. 'I want that house!' A house where Joy could stitch her own cape? Truly the best one yet.

On the right side of the image, a two-story house is shown with an open garage built right underneath. Inside the garage, a man crouches beside a large motorcycle, carefully fixing it with tools hung neatly on the walls. In front of the garage, a young child cheerfully rolls a tire along the ground with a happy expression, while a small dog sits nearby watching. The scene is set outdoors on a clear, bright day in a quiet neighborhood setting. The left side of the image is open background, left clear for text.

Then came the rumble. A deep, growly rumble from an open shop right under a house. Now that was rare. Inside, a man crouched beside a big motor, repairing it with care. Tools hung in neat rows on the walls. Outside, a kid rolled a tire while a small dog sat watching, tail wagging. 'A repair shop, right under a house!' Joy set the basket down. This was big. 'I want that house more than all the other houses.'

On the left side of the image, a wooden houseboat with a shingled roof and a front porch floats on calm turquoise-green water. Three children are on the wooden deck — one stands near the railing at the front holding a fishing net over the railing, another sits calmly at the edge of the porch, and a third stands near potted plants at the far side of the deck, all appearing content and relaxed. A small rowboat bobs alongside the houseboat, ready if they need supplies from shore. The scene is outdoors in bright daylight with open peaceful water stretching across the right side of the image. Small fish are visible near the surface of the water.

That was the end of it. Final answer. Until the road ran out of land and turned into water. Floating right there on the still water was a house. A real house, with a roof and a porch, just sitting there without a care. Three kids had the deck all to themselves. One dangled a fishing net over the railing. One sat with feet swinging over the edge. One stood among big pots of plants. A small rowboat bumped alongside. 'That's not fair!' Joy yelled. 'I want that house! You can fish from your bedroom!'

On the right side of the image, a teacher stands smiling in front of a chalkboard, holding a pointer toward three pinned photographs showing different styles of homes from around the world. She faces a group of young students seated at wooden desks in a bright classroom; several children are eagerly raising their hands, ready to share what they have learned, while others look attentively toward the board. The left side of the image is plain light background, leaving space for text.

Joy dropped off the mangoes at last. Then she raced to class and slid into her seat. 'And that,' said the teacher, tapping the wall, 'is why every home is the right one for those who share it.' Joy stared at the photos pinned to the wall. Stilt house. Floating house. Big raised family house. All of them in a row. Hands shot up into the air. 'Which home would you choose?' the teacher asked. Every single hand pointed at a different photo.

Page 9
On the left side of the image, five pinned photograph-style illustrations are arranged against a warm golden-yellow background, showing different types of homes: a tall house perched high on stilts (top), a raised wooden communal home and a houseboat floating on water (middle row), and a rustic cabin with a porch and a small storefront with a fruit stand (bottom row). The photos are slightly tilted and held with small clips, giving the feel of snapshots pinned to a bulletin board. The right ~40% of the image is plain golden-yellow background with no detail.

'Well?' the teacher smiled, looking right at Joy. 'You saw them all. Which one is best?' Joy looked at each photo on the wall. The stilt house, high and daring. The big noisy family house. The houseboat on the waves. The little cabin with its porch. The shop with the bright fruit stand. 'Easy,' said Joy. 'I want that one. And that one. And that one. And that one and that one.' The class grinned. But honestly? They all felt the same way.
