He Has a Cold! UFLI Foundations Lesson 114
Practice Words
Nitwit's nose is twitchy. His eyes are watery. His throat feels like he has swallowed a cactus. Not a great start to the day. But will Nitwit stay home? No way. 'I am fine,' Nitwit says to his chum at the town bell. 'Perfectly, totally, completely fine.' He stands up straight and crosses his arms to prove it.
Nitwit marches straight down the grassy track. Flowers bow in the breeze. Birds call. And Nitwit's nose starts to wiggle. 'I will not sneeze,' Nitwit mutters. 'I will not sneeze. I will not...' A... A... Achoo! The flowers go flat. The birds fly off. Nitwit pretends that nothing is wrong.
Fine. Maybe a quick rest at home. Just for a minute. Nitwit shuffles into his hut and finds Cat napping on the floor. 'Hey,' Nitwit sniffs. 'I am not even sick. I just need to...' A... A... Achoo! Cat's eyes fly open. She glares at Nitwit. 'So dusty in this hut,' Nitwit says.
Nitwit trudges next door to visit his neighbor, Dog. But Dog does not look so good. Dog's nose twitches. Dog's eyes water. Dog's body shakes. 'Not good,' says Nitwit. A... A... Achoo! Dog lets out the greatest, wettest sneeze ever. Blue goo sprays all over the room. Nitwit dodges. 'Yuck! Dog, that is vile!' He wipes his face. 'Stay in bed, Dog. Rest!'
Back in his own hut, Nitwit leans against the wall. His arms feel heavy. His legs feel as if they outweigh the rest of him. His head feels fuzzy. His nose feels like it is full of bees. His eyes start to water. His body begs him to rest and stay in bed. Nitwit chooses to disobey. 'I said Dog must rest,' Nitwit mumbles. 'But I do not need rest. I am completely, totally...' A... A... Achoo!
Nitwit's bed is right there. Soft red blanket. Fluffy pillow. It begs him to climb in. Nitwit looks at the bed. The bed looks at Nitwit. He crosses his arms, stands up straight, and shakes his head. 'I am. Fine.'
