Go Fetch the Sun UFLI Foundations Lesson 69
Practice Words
Tess stands on the path and squints up. The sky is thick with smog from the big smoke plant. Tess itches to fix it.
'Dad, did the sun shine once?' asks Tess. 'It did, Tess. It was hot on my skin,' says Dad. So Tess hatches a plan.
Tess makes a dash up the big hill. The smog stretches on all the homes. But up top, the sun catches Tess at last! Tess grins wide.
Tess is in the shop at the bench. She grabs a cog and attaches it to a frame. 'I will make a plane,' says Tess. 'I will get up past the smog.'
The plane lifts up, but then it splits! Tess crashes into a branch and clutches it. 'That plane was bad,' says Tess. 'The next one won't be.'
This time Dad helps. He attaches two big wide wings. Tess fits each cog until the plane blade spins with no hitch. 'This plane is topnotch,' says Dad.
Tess pulls the plane up the path, and men and women come to look. Dad hands Tess a helmet. 'Go catch the sun, Tess,' says Dad. 'I won't stop until I do,' says Tess.
The plane glides up from the cliff. Tess waves at Dad and the men and women. Then Tess pitches the plane up, up, up, past the thick smog.
Tess pops up past the smog, and there is Sun! 'Tess, at last!' yells Sun. 'The smoke plant blocks me. Shut it, and my shine can catch the town.'
Tess lands in the town. 'I met Sun!' Tess yells. 'We must fix the smog!' The men and women pitch in. They dig ditches, set plants on the bank, and pick up trash.
Then one sunup, Sun shines on the town at last! 'There they are!' yells Sun. Kids dash to the sand and stretch in the hot sun. Dad grins at Tess.
At sunup, Tess stands by the next plane with a plan. 'Many towns are still dim,' says Tess. 'Then go fetch the sun for them,' says Dad. Tess grabs the plane blade and grins.
