On the right side of the image, Alana is shown twice in an indoor bedroom scene with a teal-green paneled wall decorated with small colorful posters. In the lower right, Alana sits happily with eyes closed and a content smile, hugging a large armful of colorful socks against her chest. In the center-right background, a smaller version of Alana sits on the floor sorting through socks, looking cheerful and engaged. Several loose socks in various colors (purple, orange, green, blue, yellow) are scattered on the floor between the two poses. The left side of the image is plain white background.

Tess liked socks a lot. She liked spots and frills and zigzag stitches that tickled her toes. Every morning, Tess washed her socks, dried them, and sorted them into neat sets. Not one sock was left unmatched. Then she held the socks to her chest and shut her eyes. 'My socks,' she whispered.

On the left side of the image, Alana is shown twice in a sequential vignette. In the lower-left corner, a close-up shows her hands lifting a smaller box out of a large box filled with colorful socks. In the center-left, Alana is shown at full figure, standing and smiling proudly while holding the small box of special socks against her chest. Behind her (upper-center-left), a smaller version of Alana is seen from the side, kneeling and peering into the small box with a happy expression. The scene is set indoors in her bedroom, viewed from above at an angle, with the large sock box partially visible from beneath the bed. The right side of the image is plain white background.

Most of her socks sat in a big box under her bed. But her best socks got a small box, tucked inside the big box. Tess wore them just on big days, like her birthday and photo day. Until then, they sat unworn. Tess lifted the small box and held it to her chest. She peeked inside to check that her best socks were still there. 'Perfect,' she whispered.

Page 3
On the right side of the image, Alana is crouching down and pulling on mismatched socks, wearing her coral-red cap, with a determined expression as she gets ready to search. Mom stands behind her looking concerned, watching Alana prepare. Next to them on the far right is an open box overflowing with colorful socks, with an empty gap visible where the missing pair should be.

In the morning, Tess lifted the lid, but the small box was empty. She shook it, turned it, and looked at the gap where her best socks should sit. Tess felt uneasy. 'My socks!' she gasped. 'My best socks are missing!' She yanked on her cap and pulled on two socks that did not match. Then she marched past Mom. 'I am on the case,' she said.

Page 4
On the left side of the image, Alana stands in the lower-left area with one hand on her chin in a thoughtful pose, eyes closed, with a dreamy expression as she imagines her favorite socks. A thought bubble rises from her head showing a pink sock with purple spots, purple frills, and purple toes and heels. Behind her on the left is her bedroom with a bookshelf, a door, and a name sign on the wall. Scattered around her on the floor are various socks and small toys (blocks, a ball), along with a woven laundry basket filled with colorful clothing. A second smaller figure of Alana is visible in the upper-left background near the bedroom door, appearing to reach for something on the doorframe. The right side of the image is plain white background.

Tess shut her eyes and looked at the socks in her mind. They were pink, with purple frills and purple spots in the middle. The toes and heels were purple too. In her mind, the socks were perfect and unspoiled. 'Those socks are the best socks in the world,' Tess said. But she was talking to an empty room, and the room said nothing at all.

Page 5
In the lower half of the image, Alana is shown four times in a sequential search montage connected by a red dashed trail line. In the bottom-left, Alana kneels on a round rug holding a magnifying glass with a determined, focused expression. Moving along the trail to the upper-middle-left, Alana stands bent forward peering behind a green couch with her magnifying glass. To the right, Alana crouches and looks under a wooden table with a concentrated expression. Finally, in the bottom-right, Alana stands with a surprised, slightly disgusted expression, holding her magnifying glass and peering into a toilet in a tiled bathroom. The top half of the image is plain white background.

Tess picked up her looking glass. Not glasses, a looking glass, much more fun to use. She checked inside the couch and looked at all the dust and crumbs. She peeked under the table, but the socks were not down there. She checked unlikely spots too. She lifted the toilet lid and looked inside. 'No socks in there,' Tess said.

Page 6
On the left side of the image, Alana is shown in a comic-panel style sequence. In the lower-left, Alana leans forward with a surprised expression, holding a magnifying glass up to her face as she examines a scrap of polka-dotted fabric on the ground below her — the fabric has yellow emphasis lines around it indicating a discovery. In a circular vignette above, Alana stands with a determined, suspicious expression and an exclamation-mark thought bubble, realizing the fabric matches her socks. A smaller circular vignette in the upper-left shows Alana searching near a window indoors. The right ~40% of the image is plain white background.

Tess did not give up. A good detective never gives up. Then something on the floor caught her eye. It was a scrap of fabric with spots on it. Tess held up her looking glass and looked. Purple spots on pink. That was her sock! 'This was cut up,' Tess whispered. 'Who cut up my sock? How unkind!'

Page 7
On the right side of the image, Alana stands facing a large wooden door, pressing one hand against it while holding a magnifying glass up to peer through a small circular window in the door. She is leaning forward curiously with her legs in a wide, eager stance, clearly trying to see what Mom is doing inside. Through the small round window, the blurry silhouette of Mom is faintly visible, hunched over her sewing machine. A small pink cat-face object sits on the floor near Alana's feet. The scene is indoors with a plain white background on the left.

Tess found more scraps. The trail went to Mom's room. Tess pressed up to the door and held her looking glass to the small round window. She peeked in, unseen. Inside, Mom was bent over her stitching tool. Mom did not look up. 'What are you making in there?' Tess whispered.

Page 8
On the left side of the image, Mom sits at a wooden table operating a sewing machine, smiling as she works on transforming the socks. In the lower-left foreground, Alana stands at a three-quarter angle looking up with excitement toward a thought bubble that shows the finished sock doll — a cute ragdoll with curly hair and a polka-dot dress. The scene is set indoors in a cozy room with teal wooden-paneled walls and a window showing greenery outside. The right side of the image is open background with the teal wall and an orange accent panel.

Tess pushed the door open. She was so unhappy. 'Mom! You took my best socks!' Mom did not look up. 'Those socks had so many holes, Tess. Your toes were poking out like little worms.' 'I do not want to talk about holes!' Tess said. 'I just want my socks back.' But then Mom held something up, and Tess gasped.

Page 9
On the right side of the image, Mom's hands extend from the upper right, holding out a small handmade sock doll toward Alana. The doll has a smiling face, curly dark hair, an orange hat, a frilly purple collar, and a pink polka-dot dress with white dangling legs. Alana's smaller hand reaches in from the lower center-right, open and ready to receive the doll. The background is a soft, plain light blue-green, with no other objects or setting details visible — this is a close-up focused on the moment of the doll being passed between them.

Mom had turned the socks into a doll. It had curls, just like Tess, and a little hat, just like Tess's cap. The frills sat around its neck, and the tiny stitches were so neat. The doll looked unreal. Tess took the doll in both hands. 'It looks like me,' Tess said. 'Mom, it looks like me but smaller.'

Page 10
On the left side of the image, Mom stands behind Alana, wrapping her in a warm embrace. Both are smiling happily as they look at each other. Alana is holding up a small handmade sock doll with a polka-dot dress, proudly showing it off. The background behind them is a soft teal/turquoise wash, with the right side of the image left as plain white space.

Tess threw both arms around Mom and held on so hard that Mom was almost unable to stand. 'This is better than socks,' Tess said. 'This is better than all the socks in the world.' Then Tess held up the doll and looked at Mom with wide eyes. 'Wait, Mom. Can you turn any old sock into a doll?' Mom said yes. Tess had the best smile ever. 'So how many old socks do we have?'

Page 11
On the right side of the image, Alana is in the foreground, grinning with her eyes closed happily, leaning forward mid-stride and holding a colorful stripy sock in one hand. Behind her, Mom stands slightly further back, looking down at Alana with a mild, slightly surprised expression as Alana tugs her by the arm, pulling her along. The left side of the image is plain white background, while the right side has a soft light blue/teal textured backdrop behind the characters. The scene conveys playful energy as Alana enthusiastically drags Mom through the house on their sock-hunting mission.

Tess took Mom by the hand and pulled her fast from room to room. 'Check the drawers! Check the boxes! Check under everything!' Tess said. Tess dug into a big box of unsorted socks and lifted up a stripy sock. 'Dad has lots of worn-out socks,' Tess said. 'His socks always have holes in them!'

Page 12
On the left side of the image, Mom and Alana sit together on a bed with a patterned red-and-white bedspread. Mom holds up a small completed sock doll, smiling contentedly, while Alana sits on her lap holding another finished sock doll, looking happy and engaged. Between them on the bed is a bowl filled with colorful materials for crafting. Several loose socks in various colors (green, yellow, red-striped) are scattered on the floor to the right of the bed. The scene is set indoors in a bright, cheerful bedroom.

Dad's socks were so big that Mom could make two dolls from just one sock. Tess stuffed the socks with soft scraps while Mom stitched, and soon the bed was a crowd of tiny sock dolls. 'We can make one for every friend I have,' Tess said, counting on both hands. Then Tess looked down at her own two mismatched socks and wiggled ten toes. 'You are next,' Tess told her unlucky socks.
