This is Ned and his magic book. Ned has a house and a lovely farm that he loves very much. But today his eye is on something else.
Ned has not seen a bee in a while. He wonders what they do. He walks closely behind it, hoping to find where it lives.
The bee nest sits higher up in the tree, and Ned looks upward with hope. 'Golden honey,' he says softly. 'That smells truly lovely, and I want some.' A bear stands nearby, looking upward too, hoping for the same sweet treat.
Ned will not wait. He lifts his axe and grins boldly at the bear. 'Step back! The golden honey will be mine,' he shouts loudly. 'A few bee stings never hurt me!'
Ned has a chunk of honey in his hands! 'Stop, Ned!' calls The Book loudly. 'The bees will get angry!' it says.
Ned goes back to the house. The Book tells Ned how to make a campfire. 'Smoke makes bees move slowly,' says The Book.
Ned goes back to the bee nest and puts the campfire under it. 'Now, Ned, did you bring your shears?' asks The Book. Ned boldly takes out the shears.
Ned cuts into the hive, and golden combs of honey slide out, full and shiny. 'Quicker, Ned!' yells The Book. 'The bear is getting closer, and the bees will wake!' Ned grabs every comb swiftly and runs.
Ned neatly joins wood and the combs of honey to make a hive. 'With this hive, you can have as much honey as you like,' says The Book. Ned's mouth starts to water just thinking about it.
Ned neatly plants flowers near his house. Then, he puts the hive for the bees beside a campfire. 'Now all I need are some bees,' says Ned.
'The flowers will bring bees to you,' says The Book kindly. Ned finds some bees looking for a home. 'Come with me, bees,' he says gently, showing them a rose.
Ned has a brand new beehive that makes honey. The bees swarm closely all around him, and Ned is not so sure he likes it! The Book says they truly need to read more about bees next time. Ned runs off quickly.
