Does He Ever Rest? UFLI Foundations Lesson 82
Practice Words
Mister Can Do is in his home. He looks at the soft carpet under him. 'I made this carpet from wool,' he says. 'It is better than a cold stone floor. All homes should have one!'
Mister Can Do marches to the farm. A herd of sheep is in the pen. One black sheep is in the gap, snug with two white ones. 'I must cut all this wool myself,' he says. 'But that is such hard work. There must be a better plan!'
So Mister Can Do makes a rig. The sheep stand in snug glass pens, and lanterns hang in the barn. The rig hums and gathers the wool. Then he has a huge pile of wool. 'Done!' he says. Then he stops. 'In fact, not done yet.'
Jill catches up with him on the path. 'Mister Can Do, hire a person to help,' she says. 'Make a big shop and let him run it.' 'Jill, that is a grand plan!' he says. 'A big wool shop! The best shop ever!'
The sunrise turns the sky amber. Mister Can Do is up first. He paces on the dirt and mutters his plan. Then he grips his hammer. Bang, bang, bang! 'This will be the best shop ever,' he says.
A man visits the shop. 'Can I have this job?' he asks. 'Yes!' says Mister Can Do. 'A worker at last!' The man is Shepherd, and he gets to work at once. Jill hands him a bundle of wool, and he offers her a gift. Mister Can Do grins by the door.
Mister Can Do looks in at the shop. Shepherd gathers the wool and stacks it up. Bundle after bundle! He is a perfect worker. Mister Can Do has nothing left to fix. He stands still for four seconds. Then his hand taps his hammer.
Back home, Mister Can Do looks at his art and his soft carpet. His home is nice and snug. But he is not done. 'I still have stacks of wool,' he says. 'I can make a big windmill next!' Jill calls from the path. 'Take a rest, Mister Can Do! Rest never hurts!' He grins. 'Not done yet!'
